Too much talk about pop music here and nobody talking about hip hop. So this is a thread to talk about new releases and recommend some quality older stuff.

Let's start by listing our top five hip hop albums of all time, then our favourite release this year. Here goes.

    1. Illmatic - Nas
    2. Ready To Die - Biggie
    3. 36 Chambers - Wu Tang
    4. Liquid Swords :slight_smile:icon_bigg) - GZA
    5. Mos Def And Talib Kweli Are Blackstar - Blackstar

Favourite release this year would probably be Kendrick Lamar, but only just. Killer Mike and El-P a close joint second.

I'm glad someone posted! Wasn't sure how much of an audience there'd be for a thread like this on here.

Nice list aswell by the way. Still haven't got round to listening to that Aesop Rock release even though I loved None Shall Pass. The rest of the list is decent although I can't get into Lil B at all, I listen to that for comedy value only

Make sure you check out my top five of all time, the first three in particular, they're like the holy trinity of east coast rap (and rap in general).

I don't know what hip hop is, but Twiztid released a new cd a little bit ago called Abominations.
Although judging by the bands listed previously, you guys don't like my kind of rap, lol.

As an example, here is a great song.

    Called LDLHA-IBCSYWA
Stands for "love dont live here anymore, its been cold since you went away"

Hopefully I tagged this video right.

    Great list Owen, :eusa_clap

I know I've posted this in another thread but this being the rap and hip hop thread it sort of belongs here.
MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS - SAME LOVE feat. MARY LAMBERT (OFFICIAL VIDEO) - YouTube

I especially love the bit "If I was gay I would think hip-hop hates me".

Hip hop can be very homophobic, I must have heard artists say faggot a million times. I sometimes wonder why I love hip hop so much given all the homophobia.

Mate got me onto this just a few days back, I'm a bit late but it's quality so I thought I'd share.

Joey Bada$$ x Capital STEEZ - Survival Tactics (Official Video) - YouTube
I guess you'd like it if you like Odd Future, they're sort of similar. The kid is only 17 so I'm expecting a lot from him. Him and Earl Sweatshirt are two of my favourite rappers right now and they're literally both kids.

The guy who does the second verse, Capital STEEZ, killed himself on christmas eve and nobody knows why :icon_sad:

Anyway, I thoroughly recommend the mixtapes.

    About posting videos: http://emptyclosets.com/forum/chit-chat/63227-how-use-youtube-tag-also-spoiler-tags.html

OT, I'm not a big fan of hip hop but there's one artist with a special place in my heart.
Shabazz Palaces - Free Press and Curl - YouTube
Shabazz Palaces - Are You... Can You... Were You? (Felt) [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - YouTube
The second one is a video with a ridiculously long intro but it's worth it.

And I need to share this Dutch group, they're a bunch of weird fuckers but it's pretty enjoyable

Woo! I love that album. Favourite track would be the last (^) but I can't help thinking the female singer sort of ruins it near the end.

If you like that then Deltron 3030 is worth listening to. Dr Octagon also, plus check his wikipedia entry it's hilarious.
