Guys, How's it going? I need help with a project I have. I have to facilitate a group in a local Bostonian LGBTQ community center about coming out and I do not want to make it boring like "Let's discuss how you came out!" because it's something that we all have done before. So I had the idea of showing different (preferably funny) coming out stories that have happened in TV (preferably sitcoms/tv series/etc). So far I only have Ellen's coming out, Kurt and Santana's coming out in Glee, Isis King's coming out as a transgender in ANTM and Oscar's coming out in The Office. Any other videos I can find useful for this topic? Thanks! (Make sure you include a link if you have it, it would help me tremendously!) :smilewave:smilewave:smilewave:smilewave:smilewave
I can't find a clip, but episode 1-04 from the show Happy Endings has a subplot about a gay character coming out to his parents.
Brothers and Sisters - Saul comes out to family ---------- Post added 6th Dec 2012 at 02:30 AM ---------- Dawson's Creek - Jack comes out to his father (warning - this one's an example of how that conversation doesn't always go well)
I wanted to come back to thank all of you for your feedback. I ended up using the Dawson Creek and Ugly Betty clips. Cheers! Thank you!
Probably not to everyone's liking, but in the UK there is a soap opera called Emmerdale, and a few years ago, it tackled the story of a young man dealing with his sexuality and it was, quite frankly, one of the best, most visceral, emotional, painful and honest storylines dealing with sexuality I have ever seen. The young man that played the character won many plaudits and awards from the gay community and the soap was, rightly, held in high regard because of the way it tackled the storyline. Here is the first person Aaron(the gay character) comes out to that is a member of his family: Paddy Finds Out Aaron's Gay - Emmerdale - YouTube I cannot recommend enough that people who are having trouble dealing with their sexuality consider finding as many episodes about the Aaron Livesy storyline because it really is fantastic. You get everything from denial, anger, hatred and even a well done suicide attempt. I should point out that it is an extreme reaction, but very good.
It going easy and just two words, "I'm gay." It going difficult: /\ His arc is great and a lot of videos deal with his parents and friends coming to terms with it. I'm also currently watching the Mane storyline on Hotel Caesar which deals with him struggling on coming out.
I have yet to see a more realistic character than Aaron IMO the best performance was when he was up in court on assault charges against Jackson His only option was to admit he was Gay in the middle of a court room giving him a lighter sentence brilliantly acted .
