Seeing as this year is nearly at an end I thought we could talk about the best albums released this year. Personally I think it's been a pretty decent year for music and here are my five favourite releases, in order.

    1. Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid M.A.A.D City
    2. Action Bronson - Blue Chips
    2. El-P - Cancer For Cure
    4. Grimes - Visions
    3. Death Grips - The Money Store

Well looking at that list it is dominated by rap a bit, but oh well they're my favourites and it has been a strong year for hip hop. Good Kid is sure to be one of my favourite albums of all time let alone this year, in terms of hip hop it's up there with 36 Chambers and Illmatic IMO.

Was dissappointed with The XX and Santogold this year although I still like both of their albums. Frank Ocean, Nas, MF Doom, Django Django and Leonard Cohen would probably make up a top ten.

So your turn now. I want your five favourite albums and your biggest dissappointments of 2012, go!

    1. Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel Is Wiser...
    2. Chromatics - Kill For Love
    3. Beach House - Bloom
    4. Swans - The Seer
    5. Purity Ring - Shrines
    5. Grimes - Visions
    5. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!

Fiona Apple just kicked everybody's ass this year, in my opinion. I'm a longtime fan but it was just better than I could have ever expected it to be. One of my friends linked me to 'Kill For Love' - never heard of them before but it's just genius. They have a really distinct sound. Beach House was my prediction for my album of the year when it came out but then Apple and Chromatics beat it down. It's still phenomenal (although not as good as Teen Dream, my album of 2010). Initially I hated 'The Seer' but it just grew on me. Took a few listens (and as it's 2 hours long that is A LOT of time and effort). I cheated because I couldn't choose for number 5

The Xx's second album was such a disappointment, I literally can not believe how bad it is! I was also really disappointed by Channel Orange. I like 'Thinking Bout You' but I really do not get the fuss about the album as a whole. 'Pyramids' especially, no idea why it's being hailed as such a work of genius, I just found it overlong and a bit dull. It wasn't so much a disappointment because I always feel like they're really hit and miss, but I didn't like Animal Collective's release this year. The first track (Moonjock) was amazing and then it's like an hour of filler. Jessie Ware's album was good, but nowhere near as good as 'Wildest Moments' - I guess it's just crippled by the association to that song in my mind.

My songs of the year are

    1. Jessie Ware - Wildest Moments
    2. Grimes - Genesis
    3. Chromatics - Back From The Grave
    4. Fiona Apple - Werewolf
    5. Lower Dens - Brains

I was excited for the new albums from Leona Lewis and Ke$ha and sure, they were good, but not as great as I had hoped. These three were even better than I could have imagined.

Oh my god. You win, you win, you win. Just for putting anything by Frusciante on your list. Damn it, I am literally overwhelmed with love right now...

Anyhow. Now that I've gotten past my mini fan-girl episode, moving on. It seems that I'll have to come back to this thread with my list later on, one, because I'm extremely tired, and I need to be in a good, non-insomniac state of mind before I create the list. And two, I'm extremely picky about selecting favorite/best albums. Songs, I can easily do. Albums, a bit harder. There is pretty good music taste in this thread, though!

I haven't made my full '2012 album list' yet but some of my favourite albums are, in alphabetical order:

    Architects - Daybreaker
Blood Red Shoes - In Time to Voices
    Ellie Goulding - Halcyon
Enter Shikari - A Flash Flood of Colour
    Fun. - Some Nights
    Last Witness - Mourning After
Marina and the Diamonds - Electra Heart
    Passion Pit - Gossamer
Pierce the Veil - Collide with the Sky
    Rolo Tomassi - Astraea
Two Door Cinema Club - Beacon
While She Sleeps - This Is The Six

the Last Witness and While She Sleeps albums are probably the two best.

I see everyone is flouting the five album rule :icon_bigg Nevermind, some quality lists here.

If we're doing songs aswell mine will be unashamedly pop:
    1. Rudimental - Feel The Love
    2. Rihanna - Diamonds
    3. Icona Pop - I Love It
    4. Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools
    5. Grimes - Oblivion

And yeah thinking about it my list would probably change if I were to do it again now, probably should have checked itunes before I posted it. Ah well they were all quality picks.

I haven't really listened to a lot of new music in 2012.

Two albums that I have really enjoyed though are Joe Walsh's Analog Man and Rush's Clockwork Angels.

I completely missed that, haha. As well as "biggest disappointments". That's an easy one though: Bloc Party - Four. While Octopus is one hell of a tune, the rest of the album isn't as good as I expected.

Don't have a favorite full album, but my favorite mini album was by EXO-K (MAMA: The First Mini Album).

lol wait there was a five album album rule? @~@
my biggest disappointment was probably that the new QOTSA album didn't come out

  15. 1. Leonard Cohen-Old Ideas
    2. Bob Dylan-Tempest
    3. David Byrne & St. Vincent-Love This Giant
    4. Bruce Springsteen-Wrecking Ball
    5. Neil Young-Psychedelic Pill

Doesn't get much better than that really. Both "Old Ideas" and "Tempest" are probably in my top 10 ever.

    4. Marina & The Diamonds - Electra Heart
    5. Linkin Park - Living Things

This year wasn't that great when it came to albums, I don't think.

The first half of this thread was EXCELLENT.

    1. Grizzly Bear - Shields
    2. Beach House - Bloom
    3. Crystal Castles - (III)
    4. Chad Valley - Young Hunger
    5. Porcelain Raft - Strange Weekend
    6. Sigur Rós - Valtari
    7. Grimes - Visions
    8. Wild Nothing - Nocturne

Buzzband city. But honestly, I've been listening more to music from before 2012. I don't mean genuinely old music, I'm mainly referring to 2008-2011. Oops.
