I was wondering, are there any gay positive musicians or bands besides
Lady Gaga, Tegan and Sara, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and Rupaul? I need some new positive inspiration and good vibes all around.

If you go back a couple of decades, there are a bunch of amazing LGBT artists.

Male: Pansy Division, The Fabulous Flirtations

Female: Holly Near, Margie Adam, Meg Christian, Ronnie Gilbert, Sweet Honey in the Rock. Of those, Holly Near and Sweet Honey are probably my two favs, both for the music, and the positive social messages within the music.

There was an entire genre of music, then called "Women's Music" (or sometimes "Womyn's" or "Wimmin's") that was popular, and two record labels, Olivia Records and Redwood Records, that released almost exclusively lesbian feminist artists. Most of the artists on the label were pretty popular at the time, and much of the music is pretty timeless.

Here are three of my favs:

I think the LGBT songs thread would be a good place to look.

The Smiths' self titled was massive for me in terms of accepting being gay.

I also like this song from from Belle And Sebastien and the lead singer is pretty pro gay rights also. I'm not sure if this song is 'pro gay' but it's definitely gay themed, as are several of their other songs.

I'd prefer it not to be true. It's cool to have gay sit coms or romantic movies but music and art should be unbridled from anything in particular, which is just my honest opinion.

    I'm surprised no one mentioned t.A.T.u. o_o
Definitely one of my favorite bands. <3

EDIT: Oops, nevermind. I see FemCasanova linked a thread where someone mentioned them.

t.A.T.u aren't actually a lesbian couple like a lot of their videos and lyrics imply though, right? I think I heard something like one of them is bisexual and the other is straight. They definitely have a lot of pro LGBT songs and messages though. They're a personal favorite of mine too~ You and I is probably the song of theirs that connected the most with me in regards to LGBT issues.

Correct. Elena Katina is straight and Yulia Volkova is bisexual. I was a bit disappointed when I found this out several years ago, but I still love the band. I found out about their existence when I was 14, which is when I came out to someone for the first time. Their music definitely inspired me.
