    Urggggh!

    I wish you hadn't...

The least you could do would be to repost Dead or Alive for a comparison

Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" is "a classic song"? Dear God, am I old...

I'm not entirely sure why, at any given time, there are so many remakes of big pop hits from 15-25 years ago, but that seems to be the timeframe. I think it's far back enough that the song has worked its way into the subconscious of most (older) people - they remember it, like it, but aren't confronted with it very often. So it'll trigger positive associations with them. "Oh, I used to love this song back in the day!"

Younger fans just think it's a new song. And, when they hear the old one, they'll invariably think the new one is so much better.

For you young strapplings, here's what you missed back in the 80s.

Grr. The original was cheesy, but Jessica Simpson should be banned from music nonetheless.

    Along with Paris Hilton.

And everyone on Pop Idol/X Factor/American Idol, ad infinitum. And it is infinitum indeed, knowing what that Cowell's like.

I'm not listening to this. I love the original DoA version and Dope's version though.

Dead or Alive?? I thought they were Milli Vanilli .That can't be a classic!! Classics are something special. That last through the generations.

Well, that depends. I don't think terms like "disco classic" are oxymorons. I'd venture to say "You Spin Me Round" is an 80s dance classic. It's certainly not a work of art, or a brilliant piece of songwriting, but I'd toss it up there with "That's the Way (I Like It)" and "Twist & Shout", say.

Jessica Simpson should be excised from the space/time continuum. Retroactively so we can all return to our pristine, undamaged states.

That being said, was there ever an era that produced as much bad hair (especially male hair) as the 80s?!

Eurgh, that's all I have to say

(apart from that I think that the original could be considered a disco classic)

It wasn't terrible but it wasn't good.

Dead or Alive are classic, they are 28 years old. (as a band)

I laughed at the death metal version, so funny.
