I was personally in The Little Mermaid at school, so I have to say that one was my favorite.

I really really really want to see Newsies. I have a soft spot in my heart for Annie Get Your Gun because it's the first Broadway show I ever saw. I also love Wicked.

I like musicals, though I wouldn't say they are my absolute favourite genre of cinema or stage show. The musicals I tend to like are the types I liked as a child (mainly fantasy musicals and Disney animated films). Anyway, excluding Disney animated films (which would surely dominate any list), here would be a list of my favourite musicals:

    The Wizard of Oz
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
    The Sound of Music
    Mary Poppins
    Bedknobs and Broomsticks
    Les Misérables
    Matilda: The Musical
    Jesus Christ Superstar

I think the only musical I've ever seen is Sweeney Todd, so by default it would have to be that.

I played drums for a production of this in Colchester a couple of years ago. Some of the songs were really cool to play to - good choice, DB.

Oh, there's just so many. I love musicals -- Disney (e.g. Aladdin), non-Disney (e.g. The Prince of Egypt), the slew from the '50s and '60s (e.g. Calamity Jane), modern ones (e.g. Cats)...

Best Disney? The Lion King. Maybe.
Best non-Disney? Much harder. Sticking to animated stuff, possibly The Prince Of Egypt, but I have a feeling I'm forgetting a lot of musicals.
Best not-technically-a-musical-but-I-think-of-it-as-one? Far and away The Pirates of Penzance, by Gilbert and Sullivan. It's actually a comedic operetta, or something like that, but the Australian production in particular is just a romp.

My current favourite has to be The Phantom of the Opera. The music is incredible, the plot excellent, and the 25th anniversary performance is beautiful, sensual, thrilling, and just perfectly done. I wish Love Never Dies had been as good in terms of plot (it doesn't hold together so well for me).

This might put me in the minority, but I dislike musicals. I just don't like the whole singing and dancing. (I do like some plays, my favorite being 12 Angry Men). But, if a special someone wanted to go to one, I would attend graciously.

In terms of a stage musical that I actually saw in person, I think it would have to be a production of "Cabaret" that I saw in Stratford. It was amazing...so dark, yet so lovely. They made it oddly inviting...know what I mean? If it's a good production, "Rent" is fun...but really because of the music. "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris" was amazing, too....

Musicals aren't necessarily my favorite form of entertainment to watch on TV....it's just not the same. However, I love "The Sound of Music" ...it's difficult for me to list musicals because I'm just not that into movie versions.

Alright, so I need some advice ASAP!
I have an audition Monday for The King and I for the role of Lun Tha. I've never done anything involving theater or whatever and I'm flipping out! What's a good audition song?

Do you have a mid-to-low baritone voice?

That's a problem I have yet to rectify...

The director is looking for a low tenor.. but I would classify myself as a mid-high tenor..

Well that song is definitely in my range! One of my friends told me about this song called, "The Sweetest Sounds" from No Strings.

Haven't listened to it yet.. brb :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
