What song or music relates to your life?

Discussion in 'Entertainment and Technology' started by anthonythegamer, Jun 3, 2013.

  1. I saw this thread that asked what genre of music defines you. I'm switching it up a bit by asking what song or music relates to your life.

My song is Teen Idle by Marina and the Diamonds. It's very dark, a bit like my life LOL

This song doesn't relate to my whole life, but a substancial section of it. Starry Eyed by Ellie Goulding.

22 by Taylor Swift and Stay by Rhianna don't descibe me all the time, they mainly just describe how I feel sometimes.

I have no idea...I guess a lot of songs describe me in some way, in some aspect of my personality. I like Sam Cooke's cover of "Nobody knows the trouble I've seen." Although I'm not interested in the religious aspect of the song, despite it's prominence as religious themes were common in the time and heavily incorporated into soul music. But the song just kind of jumps out at me.

It varies with my mood and what I happen to hear on the radio and like, but these songs have been speaking to me of late:

Life Me Up - by Five Finger Death Punch:

StraitJacket Supermodel by Eve to Adam

As to how they relate to my life - I think I've hit a point in my life where I pretty much do what I want and don't put up with a lot of BS.

The music I listen to, is usually tied to my feelings at that time. Curiously, in some cases, is that usually I like a song by musical mix / tune, without realizing that the lyrics are linked to a current situation.

    My songs, for example, are:

    Home by Austra
Love at First Sight by Kylie Minogue
    Torn by Natalie Imbruglia
I Think I'm Paranoid by Garbage

And I could go on ...

Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day Most of my life before I knew the word 'transgender' was pretty dreary and I've always been alone. I'm not dreadful as I used to be but I am alone and can still relate to this song.

Tbh my music taste is typically gay, mostly dancey upbeat stuff, but then a lot of medleys.

...but most of the time, I'm not, or at least don't seem to be. And that's sorta the point of it.

Hip-hop probably is the most relative to my and I think a lot of gay guys and any minorities life.

I have yet to hear a song in any genre besides reggae that can EXACTLY describe problems with being a minority, discrimination, and just how sheepish people actually are. I know a lot of gay guy don't like hip-hop because of Pop Music that has had homophobic comments; i.e Eminem ...etc. Eminem and the likes are not hip-hop and are among the ranks of Kesha and the spice girls. No one has been so specifically marketed to white males more than Eminem.

Groups like Living Legends, Scienz of Life, Cyne, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Zion I, Hieroglyphics, The Procussions, The Sound Providers. All have songs that are 100% relative to everyones life on this site, but no one will ever bother to listen to it, or accept their message.
Gay people prefer pop artists to make them feel enlightened rather than educated, musically talented people that care about their message, and aren't just using the gay rights movement or positive songs to sell more records.

When you listen to a song that wasn't created for the masses that speaks to you, that is very different, and much more unique than relating to some millionaire pop star. I'd rather listen to a less well off artists music because their life and their values are more similar to me. I really can't relate to a millionaire pop artists who has everything you could want. Their messages just seem fake.

Sorry music is the only thing that stopped me from killing myself when I was younger, and it is because it made so much sense to me and made me feel not so alone.

I really do think a lot of gay people could benefit listening to uplifting hip-hop and reggae, because that music hits home hard and is all about overall acceptance and equality for all. If you let radio play skew what your opinion on this genre of music you are honestly missing out on extremely empowering, empathetic and positive music.

There is no other genre of music that gives off such positive vibes for ALL.

Shit.. I don't even know. There's no way I can answer this without sounding cliche.

Well, a song that's always stuck with me since I first heard it is Invisible by Disciple. I usually listen to harder stuff than this band but.. I dunno. Some songs are just relatable.
