So, I have this 14 year old sister, whom my other siblings and I have taken it upon ourselves to educate. We`ve done classic movies in several genres, movies from the 80s, etc, etc. Now that she has gotten older, I thought it about time to include some LGBT themed movies. We`ve already done a couple of movies with gay and lesbian themes, but lacking a trans* movie of some kind. Like you might understand, we are definitely movie buffs in my family, but I confess to have seen few trans* movies and it would be great if someone could give me some titles to check out. Boys Don`t Cry is out of the question, for now. I just think she`s too young, it`s a really upsetting movie. I saw it, and felt lousy for days :frowning2: I have a high tolerance on violence and sex, but when it comes to depressing movies that have things happening that I know actually do happen in real life, it hits me hard. The Saw movies, no problem. Boys Don`t Cry, I`m a wreck.

So, something trans* themed, as realistic as possible, it doesn`t have to be feel-good, just relatively suitable for a 14 year old (sex scenes is fine, graphic violence/rape is less fine). Something interesting and possibly a bit enlightening, that could portray trans* issues in a realistic way, without being a documentary of any sort.

Anyone have any tips for me, I would greatly appreciate it!

Would she be open to foreign-language films? If so, how about Tomboy (2011)? To be honest, I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard good things and it focuses on younger children so it should be appropriate.

English movies are fine, French, that I don`t think I get can my other siblings to watch. They`re not very open to non-English movies. But maybe I`ll check it out for myself, thanks for the tip

It's a foreign TV series, but it might be worth trying Wandering Son if you have difficulties finding other things. It's a 12-episode anime about a group of middle-school kids as they deal with adolescence, and it features several gender-variant characters.

The only one I can think of is 'Better Than Chocolate'. It's a comedy, though.

How about The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
Two drag queens and a transsexual get a cabaret gig in the middle of the desert.

Could be a good way to explain the difference between transgender and cross-dressing. It does contain a lot of profanity which some people may find offensive but IMDB says it's S-rated.

Monster wasn't really trans, but it was a really good movie, and I pretty much consider the main character trans.

Though it isn't the best positive movie and is extremely sad.

Now that I think about it it is one of the saddest movies I've seen.

My favorite trans movie is Beautiful Boxer. It's more of a drama and isn't as violent as the title would lead you to believe. The main character is a kickboxer who transitions to womanhood by the end of the movie. It's on Netflix.

Thanks guys! I`ve gotten some good suggestions here, so I`ll check them out. Particularly Beautiful Boxer and Better than Chocolate sounded good, but I`ll IMDB the other ones as well  You are all quite wonderful

This is a really good movie, but definitely a bit sad.
