i really only listen to punk rock, but i don't see many other people on here who share my interest. i posted some rise against on another thread, and people seemed to like it (but it was mostly from endgame, so not really the best [like from the sufferer and the witness]) so i figured i would make a thread about it. the reason i like punk rock, is because it's all about the message. i like punk rock, because it addressees political and social issues, and spreads awareness of them in the form of awesome sounding music.

are any of you guys into punk rock also? i will post some of my favorite bands

    rise against
    no use for a name
    dropkick murphys
green day (older stuff is better)
    sex pistols
    dead kenedys
h2O (more hardcore, but i enjoy hardcore also)

and alot more, but they are all spread out in the other many sub genres of punk, so i will just stick to the punk rock bands.

Yep! I'm also a fan, and like the way it addresses social/political issues, and can also just be a lot of fun. Many of the bands I like are older:

Dead Kennedys (my all time # 1 favorite)
    Buzzcocks
    MDC
    X-Ray Specs
Black Flag (especially the pre-Henry Rollins era)
    X
    early Butthole Surfers...

There's a lot of stuff to discover, and I always liked the energy. And the hair.

green day is good. although they did sell out as the got more fame. i would still rather hear their new stuff than what what is usually on the radio though. i don't understand how people enjoy the crap that's on the radio.

Yeah, jobs tend not to be all that wild about them! I used to have one, and miss it...there's a few jobs where you can have one, and it's OK, but not nearly enough. Though if they became too mainstream, that would take some of the fun away.

Finally someone who agrees that Rise Against's older stuff is better! They're still great, but the older stuff was just godlike. I don't understand how some people think "Savior" is their best song. /end rant

Other bands I listen to: 88 Fingers Louie, Green Day, Alkaline Trio. My knowledge of punk rock bands is pretty limited but I think I'm going to listen to some of these suggestions

I KNOW. the unraveling, the sufferer and the witness, and revolutions per minute are my favorite albums (SSOTCC is good too, it's just not as good as the others). their message never changed, so they didn't sell out, they just changed their sound to a less punk sound.

some of these bands' good songs:

H2O are awesome, I also like hardcore stuff like Rise Against, Black Flag etc. and you can't not like the classics like Sex Pistols, The Clash and Buzzcocks

I am more into Pop-Punk like Blink 182, Paramore, Green Day etc. than pure punk

This reminds me: Why do gay bars play such horrible music? I've always wondered if there anyplay things like punk/hc, but I've never seen it...then again, gay bars tend to annoy me...maybe if there some more alternative ones, that were less stereotyped.
