Who in the hell thinks 'that person isn't showing teeth, therefore they must not HAVE teeth?'

That's one of the dumbest things I think I've ever heard...

To be fair, if someone is going to avoid messaging you because they think that not showing teeth is proof you have no teeth, you are better off. I mean who wants to date someone that dense?

I mean there's 'not clever' and then there's just plain stupid.

I never show my teeth in pictures either, because my toothy smile is crooked and awkward looking...and looks forced.

But never heard of someone thinking you would have no teeth because of it.

That sounds similar to something I've heard parents tell children to persuade them into showing teeth in pictures. It definitely isn't true in reality.

Though it is true that most people tend to gravitate more towards images of people showing teeth in smiles than not. We often smile, laugh, and speak with our mouths a few centimeters more open when we are excited and interested in a conversation, event, or individual. Because of that we often associate pictures of actual smiling with someone who is nice, genuine, and welcoming.

So, no. No one would likely jump to that conclusion; however, overcoming your unease with showing your teeth could still be something to think about.

I do not show my teeth when I smile. They are really small and I am very self-conscious about my teeth. I know it silly, but I really if ever do I show my teeth in pictures. When I was child I didn't even smile. This is how we tell the difference between my twin sister and in our baby pictures.

You don't want to date people who judge you solely on whether you have teeth or not. For a relationship to last and thrive, it goes beyond outward appearance.

If you have nice teeth, then I do think you should flaunt them, but that's really up to you. If you don't show your teeth, it doesn't mean you have no teeth. That's a ridiculous thing to say.

You know most gay dudes like to put their six packs/bodies as profile pictures... with your friend's logic they should be headless then?

If I show teeth when I smile for a picture, I look goofy.

When I was a kid, my dad told me I looked ugly when I smiled with my teeth so I just don't. I later learned that it was because I resemble my mom when I smile. I don't think that now,but it's just a habit.

Yeah that person sounds really dense. What kind of logic...?

What your friend said is true, if you don't show teeth when you smile, people will think you don't have any. You wouldn't want that to happen right? Same with sunglasses, if you wear them, people can't see your eyes, so how would they know you even have any? So don't wear sunglasses either.

I have friends who think this and I think its vain and ridiculous. I have great teeth but I think I look like a wicked witch when I show them because it just looks forced. The only pictures of my teeth showing that I think look good are candids where I'm naturally smiling or laughing

I hate showing my teeth in photos. Whenever I try to make myself smile I look like Sheldon's "kill Batman" face, so I just keep a neutral face most of the time. The best photos are swimming ones where I'm in a genuinely good mood (or just not paying attention), or my newspaper photo that is my profile pic. So no, it's not a bad thing. Not everyone likes smiling. Rather than try to make yourself smile, get a good photo doing something you enjoy. I don't think people will assume you don't have teeth, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
