    My friend...
    Ugh...

Today she made some kind of comment that gay couples were cute but lesbians were just "weird".
Ok, so I'm not out of the closet as whatever I might be(undecided), she said it in a joking manner and blahblahblah but man did it made me feel both really angry and also personally attacked.
Which is not what she meant to do, obviously, but I wish people would stop saying things like that.
But I've said before I don't like people taking the piss out of LGBTQ to her, and others.
Apparently that means shut up for a few days but then just forget what I said.
They probably just think it's because my family is really LGBTQ friendly.
Like, my sisters godparents are a gay couple.

What gets me really is that I know she's fine with homosexuality and the rest. Many of the kids in the school are -- despite the fact there is still a fair number of homophobes.

    I digress.

Why do they make it a joke?
So they think it doesn't bother anybody.
    Doesn't hurt anybody.

Because of course nobody is going to take it seriously.
I mean, I don't. Not really. But it's always there, you know?

    Sorry, guys.
    A useless vent.
    I know.
But if you actually read this: Thanks.

    Hey Caelum, welcome to EC!

    No...don't minimize it.

It's not "just" a joke, it hurt you, deeply, and you have right to feel it! Do really take it seriously, and perhaps find a time and place to educate your friends about how you feel.

I guess it's the same reason kids make rape jokes? They think its funny or something... I used to be super outspoken about stuff like that, but I've learned to bite my tongue, because people apparently don't like other people who are intolerant of their homophobic, sexist, racist, etc comments.

It's not useless to vent. What's worse are the people who are unperturbed.

    Ah thanks guys <3

I don't think this kind of thing will change overnight but I just hope my comments of "hey, that's not funny", and others of that ilk will get through gradually.
