Posted this in the wrong place originally, got no responses. Perhaps no one has the answer?? or perhaps they all feel that I am lame!!

Well hello!! Came out two years ago after being in a dark closet for 37 years. Have trouble fitting in because of cliques in the gay community. I have been to gay bars and clubs. A great deal of drinking going on and uninhibited sex. Seems like everyone has had sex with everyone else. I am not a prude!! I enjoy sex just as much as anyone. With two exceptions, my sex has been with escorts. I feel comfortable as I can make a choice without feeling uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I have have fallen for one of them who I have been with several times. I want to totally please him. He is like my gay big brother. He talks to me (and listens) and gives me advice. Trying to wean myself off of him on advice from a member on this site. Really, really hard though!! Think about him every day! I know that I can't buy me love!! I have told everyone that he is my friend.

A friend suggested that I volunteer. I volunteered at the local Pride and the one in Columbus. The local one, I felt like an total outsider. The Columbus one was a little like that, but not as bad. Met some really great people. Participated in a marriage equality rally in Cincinnati. Was excited to see all of the supporters. Met a few people. Have found many happy couples and some where one partner is out trying to date others. In fact I met a few while I was down in Fort Lauderdale last summer. We met at a gay resort, then went out dining and drinking. Still very unsure of myself.

Would love to meet some newbies like me. Any suggestions where-right here? A good website? The dating pool of single gay men in my area is really awful. I need a newbie!!

    Hi Genesman71,
It's possible that your other post didn't get answered because site policies forbid the promotion of external websites.
It sounds like you're doing all the right things and trying to get involved with the gay community.
You could also try gay social, sports or special interest clubs.

The town that I live in speaks acceptance, but is so conservative. Not aware of any sports clubs, etc. There is a coffee group that meets in Toledo every week. I went once and it was like a bunch of old gay men complaining about their health and their lives. Sorry, but I do not need the negativity-I live with it enough in my own life. Just really hard!!

Maybe start a course of study or night classes?
Sometimes it's good just to meet other people (regardless of sexuality).
Most people know someone or know someone who knows someone who is LGBT. It's about making connections and circles.

It's just my way of making a statement about sexuality being a spectrum rather than a confinement.
