Hi, my mother made a homophobic comment and I don't know what to do as I thought she was accepting towards gay people here is the conversation. Mum: Did you here Elton John and David Fernish got married today Dad: i thought they were already married Mum:it was a civil service, How many times do we have to get the frock out is honestly what I thought
I don't really see anything offensive about that, but if this is the first time you hear that coming from your mom, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sometimes people say things without thinking, heck, sometimes I might make a homophobic comment.
We all joke around with each others race/sexual orientation. I wouldn't worry too much about it, she probably didn't mean it.
well that depends for example i know many people who don't mind gay people at all but are very offended when they hear about gay marriages. That usually happens because religion generally is against gay marriage. I think that people are not completely ready to accept the fact that gay marriage is something as important and sacred as straight marriage.
Actually, I agree. I'm don't think this is too offensive a comment. If it was something like "I don't believe gay people should ever get married- it's wrong", it would be a different story. I think she was just making a joke.
I read it a few times thinking I was missing something. I guess I don't see the homophobic comment. I actually thought it was kinda funny. Based on this conversation, my guess is that I would kind of like your mother.
I notice you are not out at all, so you are probably more sensitive to comments like that from your Mum, but I really don't think it was intended in a malicious or nasty way. I think it was a little bit of humour on her part about Elton John's upgrade to marriage. In all honesty I have heard people from the LGBT community say more controversial things. Try not to take it to heart.
