My friend is bisexual (Kinsey 2) and he lately told me he wanted to be gay. I want to help him with the situation but I'm not sure how, any suggestions?

Did you ask him why he "wants to be gay"?

I should expand on that a bit.

Assuming he really is bisexual, what makes him uncomfortable being bisexual? Is he having to deal with a lot of biphobic people? Is it an internal issue of some sort? Basically, have you tried to help him define the root of his issue?

Maybe he (and you) should watch this video:

Just a guess but could he possibly have been hinting towards an attraction to you? Or perhaps he was just trying to offer some comfort to you, as in saying you should be happy to be gay, after all he wishes he is.

I suppose it depends on the situation that he said it in. What was the conversation that made him say it?
