From the folks who bring you Pantone, here is a test to check out how well you can distinguish various shades of color. Be sure to include your score below. I got a zero which is the best score possible! Woohoo!

Maybe I should change careers and become a film colorist. Then again maybe not...

Warning: This test will quite possibly give you a headache or make it hard to concentrate for a while. I recommend taking a few minutes break between each row if you do attempt it. I had the unfortunate experience of accidentally refreshing the page when I was most of the way through. Had to start over. Now my brain is absolute mush...

I took this quiz as part of a series of aptitude tests that my grandfather had me take (except they used small paint samples instead of this). They said I can see 3 times as many colors as the average person... Which actually says something positive about the career I'm going into, which includes... color correction. So, funny you should mention being a "film colorist" although there is no such thing. What you're describing is part of the Post-production process, which is color correction. And even that doesn't have as much of a role in aesthetics as it does with playing with emotions. I could be wrong, though. I'll wait to see what my teacher says about color correction once we get there. Anyway, here is my score:

I feel weird after taking that test >_> I got 14, on a scale from 0-99 where a lower score is desirable. I already knew my eyes were messed up slightly. My left eye sees things more yellow-like and my right eye sees things more green/blue-like.

I got 3. Pretty good for an aging guy on a crappy laptop screen. And yes, it does make your head hurt. The fourth row was already too much, but who can wait..

    "You have perfect color vision!"

Not wearing glasses or contacts. I don't "need" them, but when I wear them things are sharper (and colors get better consequently). So I am wondering how I would have done with some aid. I kind of rushed through it too.

Wow that was hard on my laptops shitty touchpad. I scored a 4, which seems to be pretty good. As someone with glasses and amblyopia, it's nice to have something positive with my eyesight for a change haha

Scored an 8, but that was with about 90% effort.

I heard that girls were better than guys at colour distinction, I wonder if that's true...

Pretty cool idea! I got a 3. The third row, with green and blue, was hardest for me.

    I did this a while ago. I think I had a 26 when I took it.
    I'm reaaaaally color blind.

Same, third was hardest, first one was also tough, the second and fourth weren't as much of a problem.

I got a 0, which is apparently a perfect score. I was quite surprised.

I must have problems with the colors on screen. I'm an artist--with an acute sense of color... and I got 119! Something wrong there!

    I got 33? Wow. I'm bad.
