People have been given a list of values and have been asked to organize them from most important to least important. This was their results: 1. Subsistence 2. Freedom 3. Protection 4. Understanding 5. Leisure 6. Identity 7. Creation 8. Participation 9. Affection Do you agree with the results? How would you order this? Ask questions! Subsistence: Food, water, shelter etc. Freedom: Freedom to learn things, go places. Protection: Against anything malicious. Understanding: Learning, education. Leisure: Relax time, socialization. Identity: Who you are, what makes you, you. Creation: The ability to make. Participation in society. Affection as in your partner, love (surprisingly last!)
I don't think any of those things could be rated on a scale accurately. They all contradict each other like Identity and Affection. It is not love if the person who loves you does not love you for who you are/your real identity. And sexuality has to do with identity, so you would also need that for the love to be true in the context it is implied. You can also not create something, if you don't understand it, and you can not do any of the things on the list, if you do not have the freedom to do so. Ranking each one is like asking what is more important to survive, the heart or the brain, without having the question be metaphoric. For this reason, the question you have asked is a trick question and cannot be accurately answered.
I thought values were things like honesty, empathy, integrity, respect. This list sounds more like a re-write of Maslow's hierarchy of needs
This is of a different kind. You have to order this from what is most important to you to what is least important in your opinion. Do you value your life over your partners? Would you rather be stripped of your identity or be stripped of your freedom? These are the sort of questions you must ask yourself. You may need one to do the other but which do you value most? ShadowSpirit26: Would you rather understand everything or be a retarded person with legendary creativity, you cannot have both. Do you understand now?
Creativity cannot exist without intelligence. Intelligence cannot exist without creativity. This does not mean that every intelligent person is a master artist, but everyone one has some level of creativity as well as some level of intelligence. That is the same with freedom and identity. Both cannot exist without the other. As for your actual question of whether I value my life over my partner's; I don't have a partner, but if I did, I would definitely value his life more than mine. That's just obvious if you actually do love someone.
I can see alot of flaws with this, but... 1. Identity 2. Freedom 3. Understanding 4. Participation 5. Subsistence 6. Affection 7. Protection 8. Creation 9. Leisure
Totally agree. When I saw it I thought it was just seeing how people would rank Maslow's hierarchy. It could have a new title.
