Curious if anyone has experience with playing Badminton? The last time I played I think I was probably 10 years old. Have historically been a squash/Racket Ball player but thinking of trying something a bit different. Looks like it should be fun. Any thoughts?
I just joined a gay badminton club in September. I used to play a lot in my 20's, but it's been 30 years since I picked up the racket. It really is a lot of fun, and I have surprisingly not lost my ability to play reasonably well. It's not always about hitting hard, it's about control. It's much easier to control where the birdie is going to go (with some skill) which is generally not where your opponent is... It's a lot of fun faking a huge windup only to punt it just on the opposite side of the net (the opponents usually make a mad but futile dash toward the net to get it, except when they do, which almost always appears miraculous). I've had to go on hiatus a bit though, my knees can't take the pounding as much as they used to be able to...I am 54 after all...
I wish I knew how to play correctly. My cousins in India used to play a lot, but eventually I changed the game to just trying to see how high and long we could keep it in the air. I like the cooperative aspect.
Well there surely are different levels... maybe from relaxed attitude to more serious players... you might think about avoiding too sharp stops... I'd see it as pastime and fun and not too serious thing...
