Outline the plot for a novel...

So basically, I was just creating the first few chapters of a novel, and I thought it could be interesting to see what happens if several people contribute. Feel free to add to it!



A man falls into the sewers and becomes lost in a world he knew nothing about. He wanders through all different sorts of terrors and tricks, looking for some answers, but to no avail. The sewers are dominated by a race known only as the shadows, and without their assistance, no one gets out. Half eaten bodies, illusions, deformed tribes, people of ill repute, all overseen by the shadow people. He goes through a labyrinth of different areas, always experiencing something different, and learning something new along the way, while also becoming more familiar with the shadow people. He begins to learn their secrets, and that some aren’t who they purport to be. He begins forming alliances and slowly gaining comfort in this new environment.
After a while, he begins to leave the sewers with some of the shadow people, seeing the world through their eyes. No longer in the prison of the sewers, he can do more of whatever he wants, and finds assistance in all sorts of unexpected places. He goes on missions, and adventures, sees new parts of the world, and learns that much in the world is far more complicated than it first seems, but some things are far better than most people would have you believe. He spends a lot of time outdoors in wild nature, hiking mountains, swimming in brooks and rivers, just recuperating from the wounds to the soul from his time in the sewers, and he forms a companionship/relationship with someone, a mysterious figure known only as the other. Things are better in this stage of life, much better, and the most beautiful of winter seasons comes once again.
I’m not sure what happens after this at this point, maybe moving to another country for a time, or something.

Anyone add any other ideas?
