I think one of the reasons I like songwriting is because I can take whatever is happening to me, or whatever I'm feeling and disguise it with really vague statements so no one will ever know what I meant unless I told them. For example, here is a song I wrote about a girl I had a crush on for a while last year. Can you tell? I probably couldn't if I heard it somewhere. Writing flows so get out of the way Stand in line, I stand out of time Hush, hush, it’ll be fine Do you mind if we forget? I’ll break it off Cut it off, snap it off Don’t you see? From the rain in the sky and the snow on the trees Could you count the falling stars? Drain the ocean or cry the river? Outside my heart is just fine Drop the match or walk away I’m asking about the facade Did you put it up yourself? Actually it might have been me Will I be one of your stories?
