I woke up today and my literal first thought was "I want to start a Book Club."

So here i am. Starting a book club. On Empty Closets.

    SO WELCOME!~

(Random Blook Club Clip Art FTW)

Its sad how little i read anymore. I used to read a book a week atleast, when i was in my prime, and id like to get back to reading on a more regular basis for something that is NOT school  So i figure this is a good way to do that and get others involved.

First off: I want to see how many people are interested in doing this with me. This is how it would work. We would vote on a book, give people x amount of time (A week? More?) to get the book from their local library or book store, and then all start reading it at the same time. Depending on how long the book is, we could set meeting days on this thread and have either up to x chapter read, half way/quarter points, or completely done. Then we get to discuss what we think about the book

Seeing as this is Empty Closets, we *could* pick an LGBT themed book. Im worried that would limit who could get the book however, seeing as many people are not out/comfortable with getting an LGBT book. I dont want to limit the club, so im thinking our first book should be anything.

ANYWAYS! - I first need to see if your interested. Please post if you want to commit to reading along with me  I promise to bake virtual cookies for our meetings...?

Ohmygosh! I’ve always wanted to be part of a book club!

I’m in, but procuring said books (especially if they are LGBT themed) might be a bit of a roadblock for me. Most people in farm country don’t know what books are, so they have a very limited selection. :frowning2: So I guess that's a maybe from me.

Thats what i thought. For our first book for sure we can pick something very un-gay and farm country approved

 I'm in. Don't feel you have to make exceptions though, if I can't procure the book then I'll just skip a meeting or two.

Im liking this idea of yours.
It seems like a good way to get aqcuainted with other members of the forum.
The only thing is, I'm limited to my resources of books. I would have to order online and that would take a little bit of time to get to me..

How are we gonna choose the books? I trust we would have to cast a vote.
I'll throw one out there for the vote

the Sookie Stackhouse True Blood box set
Its not exactly fully LGBT themed, but it sort of is in context. If you think about it..
Vampires, who are outsiders of the community become regocnized as they "come out of the coffin" dealing with acceptance and rejection alike. just a thought.

Oh my. I LOVE that idea <3 I was going to get the books anyways :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But yes. My idea is we spend a day throwing around some book ideas, then ill see if i can get a Mod to create a Poll on the thread with the books and we all vote on what to pick.

I realize its hard for some to get their hands on books :frowning2: Thats something I sadly think we cant do much about. And i agree, this is going to be a great way to get to know people better.

I have and have read all these books so at least i could contribute!

I'd just like to add that if cost is an issue people could get an account with www.paperbackswap.com
it's a great site to check out for those who like to read alot but don't want to spend a bunch of money buying new books.

I think this is brilliant idea, although I most likely will not participate as I'm a very slow and occasional reader. Just wanted to say that i think its a very good idea but I do suggest staying away from series of books, maybe if you do attempt a series try for a smaller one as the Sookie Stackhouse series is 9 books so far (not sure if its finished or not) and is a lot to read and process to then discuss.

I really like the idea and I would like to be a part of this. However, I don't have a lot of spare time to read anymore, and I am afraid that you are mainly going to read books in english, wich means that I might not find them easily or read them quickly.
But if you don't mind that I participate only from time to time, I'd like to give it a try.
    Let me know.

I'd love to join. The only problem on my part is... if the book is available in bookstores or the library here. The bookstores in the Okanagna area are a tad limited unless it's something that's found everywhere. I basically have to scrounge to find LGBT themed books and even then the bookstores (even Chapters or Coles) either don't have them, or they are located in bookstores way out in Vancouver or something.

I'm in - providing I can get the books any way, I should be ok providing not to many of them are LGBT books but I can get some of them just not a lot.

The funny thing is, I was thinking of suggesting the same idea, so I'm glad you did! My time availability is spotty but in principle i love the idea and will try to participate.

I'm so in. If I could suggest some mildly homoerotic and fairly accessible books: Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, if everyone hasn't read them already that is.
