I just thought it would be good to post songs with lyrics (or I suppose a tune though I don't quite get how that would work) which you feel could relate to LGBT people or issues in a humourous or serious way~

My ideas:

Ain't No Man - Dina Carroll

Broken Strings - James Morrison ft. Nelly Furtado

It's nothing LGBT-related, but I find myself listening to Barbara Streisand's "The Way He Makes Me Feel" a lot. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Also, "Defying Gravity" from Wicked... Take out all the dialogue from the play, and just use the song itself (kind of like the Glee cover), and I usually interpret it to be about the coming out process and going against cultural norms, etc.

3. Professional Widow by Tori Amos

slag pit
stag shit
honey bring it close to my lips
don’t blow those brains yet
we gotta be big boy
we gotta be big
starfucker just like my Daddy
selling his baby
just like my Daddy
gonna strike a deal make him feel
like a Congressman
it runs in the family

rest your shoulders Peaches and Cream
everywhere a Judas as far as you can see
beautiful angel
calling “we got every re-run of Muhammad Ali”

prism perfect
honey bring it close to your lips
what is termed a landslide of principle
proportion boy it better be big boy
starfucker just like my Daddy
selling his baby
just like my Daddy
gonna strike a deal make him feel
like a Congressman
it runs in the family

Mother Mary
china white
brown may be sweeter
she will supply
Mother Mary
china white
brown may be sweeter
she will supply
she will supply
she will supply
she will supply
give me peace, love and a hard cock

The Kinks - Lola (one of my favorite LGBT-related songs)

I met her in a club down in old Soho
Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola
C-O-L-A cola
She walked up to me and she asked me to dance
I asked her her name and in a DARK BROWN voice she said Lola
L-O-L-A Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Well I'm not the world's most physical guy
But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine
Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand
Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man
Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Well we drank champagne and danced all night
Under electric candlelight
She picked me up and sat me on her knee
And said little boy won't you come home with me
Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy
But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

I pushed her away
I walked to the door
I fell to the floor
I got down on my knees
Well I looked at her and she at me

Well that's the way that I want it to stay
And I'll always want it to be that way for my Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Well I'd left home just a week before
And I'd never ever kissed a woman before
But Lola smiled and took me by the hand
And said little boy I'm gonna make you a man

Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and in bed
(also interpreted as: I'm glad) I'm a man
And so is Lola
Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola
Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Rush dedicated a whole verse to a LGBT theme. Too bad it was one of their weaker songs. Still a good song though.

Full Frontal - You Think You're A Man (first heard on the Queer as Folk soundtrack)

man (man)
boy (boy)
man (man)
boy (boy)

boy x8

man (man)
boy (boy)
man (man)

man (man)
boy (boy)
man (man)
toy boy

Turn around
stand up like a man and look me in the eye.
Turn around
take one final look at what you've left behind.
Then walk away
from the greatest lover you have ever known.
yes walk away
you're telling me that you can make it on your own
By yourself all alone without my help
mister you just made a big mistake.

You think you're a man
but you're only a boy
You think you're a man
you are only a toy.
you think you're a man
but you just couldn't see
You were not man enough to satisfy me.

boy x4
toy

Shut the door
take a look around and tell me what you find.
Shut the door
take a giant step for you and all mankind.
Then don't come back
I always gave you so much more than you deserve
No don't come back
'cause no one makes a fool of me
You've got a nerve to walk away
mark the words I'm gonna say
Mister you just made a big mistake:

You think you're a man
but you're only a boy
You think you're a man
you are only a toy.
you think you're a man
but you just couldn't see
You were not man enough to satisfy me.

boy x15
man

Shut the door
take a look around and tell me what you find.
Shut the door
take a giant step for you and all mankind.

I always gave you so much more than you deserve
No don't come back

What Difference Does It Make? - The Smiths

All men have secrets and here is mine
So let it be known
For we have been through hell and high tide
I think I can rely on you ...
And yet you start to recoil
Heavy words are so lightly thrown
But still I'd leap in front of a flying bullet for you

So, what difference does it make ?
So, what difference does it make ?
It makes none
But now you have gone
And you must be looking very old tonight

The devil will find work for idle hands to do
I stole and I lied, and why ?
Because you asked me to !
But now you make me feel so ashamed
Because I've only got two hands
Well, I'm still fond of you, oh-ho-oh

So, what difference does it make ?
Oh, what difference does it make ?
Oh, it makes none
But now you have gone
And your prejudice won't keep you warm tonight

Oh, the devil will find work for idle hands to do
I stole, and then I lied
Just because you asked me to
But now you know the truth about me
You won't see me anymore
Well, I'm still fond of you, oh-ho-oh

But no more apologies
No more, no more apologies
Oh, I'm too tired
I'm so sick and tired
And I'm feeling very sick and ill today
But I'm still fond of you, oh-ho-oh

Oh, my sacred one ...
Oh ...

Cracking Song

Here's the song, embedding doesn't like me.

Pretty sad song. There's another half to it that deals with a girl who is a drug addict, but it's also pretty long.

I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe forgiveness is the key to your own happiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye (x2)
Until you say goodbye
Oh no no no no no

Rod Stewart - The Killing of Georgie

In these days of changing ways
So called liberated days
A story comes to mind of a friend of mine

Georgie boy was gay I guess
Nothin’ more or nothin’ less
The kindest guy I ever knew

His mother’s tears fell in vain
The afternoon george tried to explain
That he needed love like all the rest

Pa said there must be a mistake
How can my son not be straight
After all I’ve said and done for him

Leavin’ home on a greyhound bus
Cast out by the ones he loves
A victim of these gay days it seems

Georgie went to new york town
Where he quickly settled down
And soon became the toast of the great white way

Accepted by manhattan’s elite
In all the places that were chic
No party was complete without george

Along the boulevards he’d cruise
And all the old queens blew a fuse
Everybody loved georgie boy

The last time I saw george alive
Was in the summer of seventy-five
He said he was in love I said I’m pleased

George attended the opening night
Of another broadway hype
But split before the final curtain fell

Deciding to take a short cut home
Arm in arm they meant no wrong
A gentle breeze blew down fifth avenue

Out of a darkened side street came
A new jersey gang with just one aim
To roll some innocent passer-by
There ensued a fearful fight
Screams rang out in the night
Georgie’s head hit a sidewalk cornerstone

A leather kid, a switchblade knife
He did not intend to take his life
He just pushed his luck a little too far that night

The sight of blood dispersed the gang
A crowd gathered, the police came
An ambulance screamed to a halt on fifty-third and third

Georgie’s life ended there
But I ask who really cares
George once said to me and I quote

He said ’never wait or hesitate
Get in kid, before it’s too late
You may never get another chance
’cos youth a mask but it don’t last
Live it long and live it fast’
Georgie was a friend of mine

Oh georgie stay, don’t go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh georgie stay, don’t go away
Georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh georgie stay, don’t go away
Georgie, georgie please stay you take our breath away
Oh georgie stay

I think that at least two Bloc Party’s songs are connected with lgbt issues.
The first one:

I still remember

I still remember
How you looked
That afternoon
There was only you
You said it was just like a full moon
Blood beats faster in our veins
We left our trousers by the canal
And our fingers they almost touched
You should have asked me for it
I would have been brave
You should have asked me for it
How could I say no?
And our love could have soared
Over playgrounds and rooftops
Now every park bench screams your name
I kept your tie
I'd have gone wherever you wanted
And on that teacher's training day
We wrote our names on every train
Laughed at the people off to work
So monochrome and so lukewarm
And I could feel our days where becoming night
I could feel your heart beating across the grass
We should have run, I would go with you anywhere
I should have kissed you by the water
I still remember

And the next one:

Kreuzberg

There is a wall that runs right through me
Just like this city I will never be joined
What is this love? Why can I never hold it?
Did it really run out? In those strangers bedrooms
I have decided at 25
That something must change
Saturday night, in East Berlin
We took the U-Bahn to the east side gallery
I was sure that id found love with this one lying with me
Crying again in the Hauptbahnof
I have decided at 25
That something must change
After sex , the bitter taste
Been fooled again, the search continues
Concerned mothers of the west,
Teach your sons, how to truly love.

Ahhh, I love this song, one of the best of Bloc Party

here's a great song by Heather Small called Proud:

I look into the window of my mind
Reflections of the fears I know I've left behind
I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I'm on my way
Can't stop me now
And you can do the same (yeah)

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It's never too late to try
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?

Still so many answers I don't know (there are so many answers)
Realize that to question is how we grow (to question is to grow)
So I step out of the ordinary
I can feel my soul ascending
I'm on my way
Can't stop me now
You can do the same (yeah)

What have you done today to make you feel proud?
It's never too late to try
What have you done today to make you feel proud?
You could be so many people
If you make that break for freedom
What have you done today to make you feel proud?

(yeah) We need a change (Yeah)
Do it today (yeah)
I can feel my spirit rising
(change, yeah) We need a change (yeah)
So do it today (yeah)
'Cause I can see a clear horizon

What have you done today to make you feel proud? (to make you feel proud)
(let me hear ya X3)So what have you done today to make you feel proud?
(yeah)'Cause you could be so many people
Just make that break for freedom
So what have you done today to make you feel proud?

anything by "the Cliks" would easily count, since that are a LGBT band :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

sadly the actual video for "dirty king" won'd load :frowning2:

I love Morrissey. Most of The Smiths' catalog can be interpreted as being about gay men, and yet he's this strangely ambiguous character.

I love "This Charming Man." A little more obvious, but still relevant.
