    Hi everyone,

In part of discovering my sexuality I've read fiction books based on gay relationships and books that are just for fun.

Does anyone want to start a book club? We would all choose a book and then read a couple of chapters a week and then have some fun discussing portions of the book. At least i think it's fun...

    Thoughts?

Well... It sounds interesting, for sure, but it may be difficult to implement. LGBT books are harder to find, in general. Besides that, there are only a handful of LGBT books that are appropriate for most ages (13+, basically) that are also well done.

I know of quite a few LGBT books, and can recommend quite a few, but... The list is short.

This really is up to you. Would there be a leader? Who would be the leader, if so? How structured would this be? (As you can see, I like details and organization quite a bit. As to whether that's a good or bad thing for this... Who knows?)

EDIT: As for non-LGBT books... There are tons. So it depends on what you'd like to happen, really.

Well it would really depend on how many people we have. A couple of people could take lead and post discussion questions for the week. Right now i was thinking we could do this.

Sunday- Read chapter x- y by Wednesday
    - Assign people to create discussion questions
Tuesday night- People assigned to create discussion questions post them. Others who have questions that arise from the readings can post as well. But these designated people MUST post.
    Wednesday - Saturday: Discussion occurs

    Rinse and repeat.

If you do a search, someone started organizing one here some months back and there were several threads about it. You might be able to find folks that have already expressed interest and jump start something.

^ That person was me. I'm the founder of ECBC [Empty Closets Book Club.] We had a lot of interest in the group and we even have our sticky as you might note. However, the problem was keeping people involved due to everyone's business schedules in this thing called life.

I've been wanting to bring it back, but there didn't seem to be much interest.

However, if I see enough buzz about it going on, I don't mind giving it another try at all. It would actually just make my day. :] So just holla at me. Thanks!

Romi started one up http://emptyclosets.com/forum/entertainment-media/67151-book-club-brainstorming.html. We unstickied the thread (which is here) due to Romi becoming a little too busy to really run it (and dwindling interest), but we can re-sticky the thread / have a new one.

For the love of all things sane, please don't; I can suggest far more suitable erotic material with fair portrayals of the BDSM community and relationships there of. The characterisation is pretty dire and the mechanics between the two protagonists are unhealthy to say the least. You can read the original for free online somewhere, it being a fanfiction based on Twilight, need I say more?

I'm in. I love to read, all kinds of books. LGBTQ books, romance, anything.

Except 50 shades. Nope, no, nuh uh, no way, absolutely positively not.
    Or Twilight, also no.

  10. I love reading, and usually prefer horror and adventure. Recently I've tried some LGTBQ themes and loved them though.Romance is OK, so long as there's more to the book then mush, kissing and lust.

One annoying thing though; I can find almost No Lesbian themed ones. Whenever I'm searching Kindle all I can find are Gay themes and Lesbian Porn. It's really annoying!!
Does anyone have some suggestions for Lesbian themed books? Please?

I woke up and check this thread and saw all of this! Awesome!

Hey Chip! Thanks for your help! I made a search and found nothing, but I guess I just didn't look hard enough.

    Hey Romi

Did you want to work together and try to bring it back? I think the one difference from a couple posts I read in the other thread was that you gave people a whole month to read the book and then discuss. I don't know if this would work but what if we read a few chapters a week and then had a discussion? Maybe that would work out more in regards to continuous support?

Oh, I love reading  But I've never been in a book club, so I have no idea how that works.

I think a month for a book is too much, because if it's good, then I'll swallow it in a few days and it will be old news after the month. And if it's not that good, I'll come up to the day before the deadline with 90% unread and then I won't even read it.

So, the idea of several chapters and several days followed by a discussion seems great. However, some rules should be made, like "no reading ahead!"

Oh, this could be fun

Btw, why are there no thrillers in the poll? They are like the second largest category.

I would keep an interested eye to it for sure. I just dont read a lot of fiction, and when I do its usually historical fiction that has close ties to actual events and people, based in fact. Ive gotten a little out of the habit of reading lately though, so some structure and time line and group discussion certainly sounds like fun and a good idea.

YES!!!! I've got all three of them sitting on my bookshelf, yet to be read! I did get about 50 pages into the first one but then I got really busy and just never went back to it lol. A book club would be the perfect motivation to get back into it!

Well, ultimately that was the plan. We gave the members a month to finish the books, but dicuss them over the course of that time.(Mainly after every week.) But when we began with threads for the beginning chapters of our first book... Romi and I were essentially the ones there. lol

I was pretty much Ro's right hand, and I would be happy to assist again. However, I definitely think we need a new approach. An LGBT specific book club, just isnt very realistic at the moment. Personally, I am an avid reader and have the means to get whatever book needed, but that is most likely not going to be the norm for the majority of our members. I believe that we should begin non-LGBT and incorperate LGBT works over time. This way it is easier for us to get into the motion of things. Easier for our more closeted members to participate.

The other problem with this structure is the differences in demographics we have on this site. We have an extremely split amount of membesr from low teens to upper aged, so its very difficult to figure out what is going to be interesting to everyone, at the same time.

    Hey Gen,

Well I'm 16, so I'm in that lower teen demographic.

I think that this needs more structure. If we give a month to read the whole book that's fine. But there should be assigned readings for that week. So we finish the book by the end of the month, but during that month we must finished x-y chapters. Then at least we are all on the same page so a discussion is easier then everyone at 10 different points.
