Well, I just spent all day cleaning and found that I have about $100 in coins. So, I think I'm going to cash them in a coinstar machine and finally get an epilator. Oh btw, I'm biologically male and I think I'm female mentally but I think, for now at least, androgynous is what I'm going for.

Anyways, I've always hated body hair, stomach, legs, chest, arms, butt, and shaving freakin sucks. It sounds like an epilator is the way to go. From what I've researched, the emjoi caress light gold corded ap-10L sounds like the best balance of price and quality. Or one of those. Idk it just seems like emjoi is the best brand. I could go up in price if I needed to though.

Oh, and on a side note, does anyone know a good resource for androgynous fashion inspiration?

I feel pretty confident about my future I think. Soon I'll be confident with my body and how I present myself :b

Thanks in advance for any advice on epilators and/or androgynous stuff

Sorry, no advice, but I would be interested to know how you get on with the epilator! I'm getting sick of shaving :frowning2:

What is an epilator? I'm guessing it has something to do with shaving, but I've never heard of it 0.o

Good luck and I hope everything works out, but as long as you stay confident in who you are I'm sure it will :3

Think a million tweezers yanking at your hair, and that is, as I understand it, an epilator

I was wondering how a "nono" would work. You know the one seen on TV?

    I'm interested in hearing too.

I know this is a kind of old post but I have some information!

Epilators: it feels like death is hitting you in the face with a shovel that is on fire! But DAMN DO YOU GET SMOOTH!

They hurt more in different places I've noticed, and the first time is the most painful.

Chin: used to be able to use it but now the pain's too much
    Upper lip: Waaaay too painful!
Chest, nipples and stomach: not too bad
Armpits: basically bareable after the first time
Pubic hair: I can't take the pain personally
Legs & arms: I don't have much experience with those but I think I remember trying it on my leg and it was ok but don't quote me on that one.
    Feet: Too painful

Also take a shower first because the hot water loosens the follicles or pores or some scientific junk like that!

I just bought a $30 one from Wal-mart, but I'm not entirely sure if price makes a difference.

If this was a word association game as in the Game and Fun section... you say "epilator" and I say "pain"

Mine was $15 at TJ Maxx. But it burned out so I guess you get what you pay for :frowning2:

As to how to use it, I found the best way is to pick an area that's easy to get - like I start with the kneecaps - and just concentrate on it, get it smooth, and get yourself used to it, and then I do lines and then fill 'em in. It makes me feel like I have little goals and I can keep track of my progress.

The more often you do it, the less it hurts, and the slower the hair grows back.

Also do not focus on one area too much, move around a lot. I do small circles.

Anybody have any idea if epilators are likely to work any better (thicker so easier to grasp and pull out?) or worse (thicker so more embedded and harder to pull out?) on male leg hair? I don't have much leg hair but I still have more than I imagine the majority of women do.

For what it's worth my legs were as hairy as any male's (I'm a male-to-female transsexual and was not on hormones when I was epilating) before I started and I was able to get them smooth. But again, my epilator lasted about 4 months before dying.

I don't think my hair length had anything to do with it though; I kept up with it and my hairs came back thinner and less dense. Eventually, I don't want to call it painless, but it got very easy. My cis girlfriend at the time was often hairier than me because she shaves with a razor still.

Just give yourself breaks, it really does hurt as much as people say! Especially the first time. My laser hair removal was way easier to deal with.

    It's basically waxing, just slower.

Bring on the pain! At least if I can do that it might make plucking my eyebrows seem more tolerable

According to one of my housemates, it doesn't hurt THAT much. Maybe he just has a high pain tolerance though. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

But yeah, it's something I want to try out. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Unlike many hair removal products, epilators work on male hair as well!
