I am home for spring break this week, so I have been working in my hometown workplace again. I emailed the HR person a while back informing her that I am trans*, and she was totally awesome about it! She ordered me a new nametag, and changed my name on the shortlist schedule (since I'm still in the process of getting it legally changed).

I was a little bit nervous about how some of my coworkers would react, but most of them didn't care at all. I told some that they could call me Ash, since that is what they have always called me before. (Ashton is going to be my middle name). Others got the switch to Brad without any hesitation at all.

Some customers were interesting though. My total Bible tract count for the day is 2. The first one said that all gays are in mental hospitals and have AIDS... I had to laugh at that one a little bit..

All in all, this went a lot better than expected. I was expecting some questions, or some hostility from people, but I didn't get any of that at all

That is great Brad! You are really lucky to have an awesome workplace at home, well all of the places you work at have been have been really good about this. If you haven't thrown the Bible tracks away, I would like to see them, they sound like a good laugh. Was it the track or the person who made the mental hospital comment?

I still have them..lol. They are going to be added to the collection. I'll bring them back with me  It was the tract that said that. The lady just said "I have this for you" after I finished ringing her up. So, she was not hostile at least.

Thanks everybody  I still cannot believe that things went as well as they did.

I'm not sure.. We have a lot of denominations in my area that hand these out. (That's why I have a nice collection of them now..lol)

This is the one that I got today.. (TW Religious hate on GSM people, rape and general creepyness..)

Ah, yes, a classic Jack Chick production. The kind of stuff that makes me feel bad about admitting that I go to church. But then I remember how open, welcoming and affirming my congregation is, and I feel better.

I'm sorry you got exposed to that hateful crap. I'm really, really glad that it was an otherwise good day.

    Thanks everybody

That's awesome that your Church is so open  I wish that there were more Churches in my area like yours. My area is mostly conservative... so that makes things fun sometimes.

Brad you are absolutely awesome in your courage. We live in the boonies in Missouri surrounded by uber-conservatives who tend to treat "different" by beating it over the head with the hatred they say comes from God. Your courage, and the support you found at your job, give me hope for my daughter as she gets older and goes out into the world. I hope things keep going well for you. Congrats!
