I think so. I'll be posting this to FB as well and encourage everyone who are citizens of or have friends in the US to post this to their social media sites if possible. OP, I'm going to re-post this in the General News section as well under "Important: USA Petition to Recognize Gender Diversity" Thank you for posting this!
There's a post on tumblr somewhere that allows people outside of the us to sign by using a certain zip code thing. I saw it a couple times.
Just a heads up, don't get pissy at non-binaries that don't sign it. My friend is bigender and isn't going to sign it. They've gotten some flack for that decision.
Be careful what you wish for, Americans are notorious for a broad degree of bigotry even in spite of laws protecting certain groups of people. To my knowledge, currently we only have about 16 of 50 states who have legal protections in place for gender-variant individuals, and we are still light years away from even Gay/Lesbian equality on an acceptable level. To put it into perspective for you, the American Civil War is ancient history, we're still dealing with racist assholes (which is quite the irony, in the context of America being founded on the principle of freedom of diversity). We are the most ethnically diverse country there is and yet somehow at the same time (in my opinion) the most intolerant country there is.
I disagree with this. Of course, the US has problems but we are not the most intolerant country by an stretch of the imagination. The Civil War isn't ancient history at all. This country was founded on a set of ideals that were both influenced by the time of their conception as well as meant to be modified to maintain freedom for all of posterity. We must criticize the country to improve it but only through some degree of idealism can we truly affect change.
