Thought I'd start this thread because the MtF's in this forum are all too aware of the obstacles we XY-chromosomed persons face in the ordeal of addressing facial hair. Rather than hijack StayJay's excellent makeup thread (even though that's what I do best :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:) I'll just copy/paste here some tips and techniques I employ. Hopefully this thread will become a place where other MtF's can offer tips, commiserate on options like electrolysis, or even just vent about the great fun of having to deforest a female face. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    ---

I can relate to this. I have ultra-sensitive skin and am meticulous about taking proper care of it these days, sparing no expense. I still get bad razor bumps, especially on the left side of my face (my good side :dry:slight_smile:.

One thing I have noticed helps is a change in my technique. Tried this just last night to very good results:

    • Douse my face in ice water, including icing my "tough" areas (mostly chin & upper lip) directly with cubes.
    • Immediately apply refrigerated gel to face.
    • First shave, which is nothing but single strokes, made as smoothly as possible. Experience has taught me subtleties of direction for certain areas.
    • Very close inspection. During this, my nose is almost touching the glass.
    • Second dousing & gel application.
    • Second shave, which is really just maintenance. As before, try to stick the single, smooth strokes, where possible.
    • Rinse in tepid water. Pat face dry with soft cloth.
    • Moisturize.

Following this procedure gave me about the closest, smoothest shave with the least irritation of my adulthood. (Another tip: between shaves, I always store blades face down in about 1/16" of alcohol inside a sealed glass container. Keeps oxidation at bay and blades fresh for longer.)

    ---

EDIT: Probably should add that, during the "dousing" stage, make sure this is kept up for at least a couple of minutes. Face should be plenty, plenty wet prior to suds application/shave.

I've been using this all week and it seems to be working nicely: Venus & Olay Razor: Gillette Venus

In addition to the fact that it shaves pretty damn close because of the 5 blades (certainly seems better than the 1, 2, 3 and 4 blade razors I've tried in the past) it also has moisturisers, which are really nice and make your face feel dead smooth! I use it while I'm in the shower and it certainly FEELS much better than anything else I've used.

For all you know we're all XXY :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I will contribute though. Steam opens up your pores and cold closes 'em. So I shave in the shower  I find I do better by touch than looking in the mirror anyway. I would so just wax or sugar if I could.

*Once again barges into the ladies room...*

I have wax strips that come in a box from the market that I use on my unibrow/ forehead hair (have used on my arms once) that seem pretty decent. I've also used caramel from the Arab market. It doesn't work on my chin hair but mine is probably coarser than what you girls have since it's an ethnic thing. Anyway, something to consider...

Also, the XXY thing is totally plausible.

This is true. After what Claudette discovered about herself, I've thought about these kind of possibilities.

I do the icing/ice water thing because the cold causes your skin to retract from the follicle, enabling a closer shave.

You know we've granted you a pass on the ladies room. Gallancy has it's perks. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    Never thought about that...

Klein filters huh? Some cases are more extreme than others.

But that's not the only reason. Karyotyping might be a good idea to rule out genetic diseases in offspring or such later on.

    But enough of digressing.

I'm so trying your technique tonight.

Best of luck. When it comes to angle for cheek and "jowl" whiskers, I find 45 degrees rotated from the grain direction to give me the closest shave. Any sharper and I tend to irritate.

    Nope.

But that xxy thing is not possible medically yet. You need a super splicer. You need to splice every cell in the body's DNA in a short period of time. Super splicers are in the Ender's Game books.

Your DNA is not in a triple helix it is you could have 3 different copies of chromosome number 23 which each have a double stranded DNA molecule.

I have often wondered how common chromosomal intersexuality may be among those of us within the gender-variant spectrum...

Here's something I've considered recently: any of you ladies ever have experience using a straight razor? Wondering if it might give a closer shave vs safety razor.

It does but they're tricky to use.

Just get a karyotype. I could read the damn thing and tell you. I'd love to have XXY chromosomes... that would explain some things.

    ^ Anyone else?

Curious about maybe trying this, even if my shaky hands may be an imminent threat to my face. (Damn black facial hairs.)
