As the title suggests, I got invited to my first all-guys party today! (!)

It's Saturday night. I'll be bringing beer and dressing fully male. I'm kind of nervous because I'm not good at parties to begin with. I'm kind of awkward in social situations, especially when there are a lot of people involved. I want to enjoy this as much as possible, but I don't want to be straight out of that Garth Brooks song "That Girl is a Cowboy".

    Any thoughts?

Be the person you want to be.

I know, I know. This is easier said than done, but really, that's all there is to it. Just be sensible, polite, and willing to crack some jokes. Also know, it's totally fine to chill off to the side with somebody. A party doesn't mean you have to wear a lampshade on your head, and be Spiderman-ing off the walls. It's just about getting together, having some fun, and seeing what happens.

If it helps, be sure to learn some cool handshakes. Street cred goes a long way, for one reason or another, at these get-togethers.

Finally, have a God damn good time, geez. LOL.

I will probably end up talking to one or both of the two guys I know that are going to be there. That's my usual go-to thing at parties. I'm kind of hoping to get into some more social stuff though, or if there are games, I'd like to try some. Well, I want to try games unless they're drinking games. I'm a designated driver.

If it's a party and you're bringing beer, unless some other type of game was pre-arranged (I go to a poker party about once a month), any games will probably be drinking games.

Not necessarily. I went to a co-worker's house to drink once, and while most of us brought alcohol, we didn't play drinking games. We played regular card games, one of which was Left, Right, Center. Of course, we were drinking the whole time, but we didn't cooperate that into our games.

Also, I'm sure you'll be fine. Just try not to make up for anything by being super masculine. That just gets annoying, no matter who does it lol I'm sure you'll be fine with being yourself.

Don't do what Mulan does and you'll be fine. That is: no spitting, no hitting people, no exaggerated poses and gestures, and not following the advice of a red dragon voiced by Eddie Murphy...in fact, keep him away. He's useless.

Seriously, have fun and be natural.

Edit: And be careful what you drink.

Hey JJ, I agree with Claudette, but also just be you and everything will be fine. Most men are into sports. If you need to break the ice thats one subject to begin with. I know I can never talk sports until I did my research and then talk about it lol. Movies are another topic. Depends on the movie, good ones to reminisce about are: Kingpin, The big labowski, Fargo, Scarface, Casino, Boogie nights. Just to name a few.

OK, I definitely won't pull a Mulan then.

I'll be careful. I've heard there's going to be weed there, which I need to stay away from since I'll be driving. Honestly, if I wasn't driving, I might take a hit or two, but I've gotta get home somehow since I work in the morning.

Also, in other party-related news, this girl at work today was saying how she might go to this guy's party, and this red flag went up in my head. I was just like, "Oh, huh-uh. Hell, no, there's no way he invited her." I asked him about it later, and he told me she pretty much invited herself, but he didn't tell her where he lived. He doesn't really want her there because A) she hits on him, and B) whenever she's on break, he always has me keep an eye on his car since he doesn't trust her. So yeah, don't think she'll be there. I kinda feel bad for her because I know what it's like to be that chick who's always out of the loop and never gets invited to stuff with the guys, but I don't think she'd like being the only girl there besides the host's girlfriend.

He also told me there's going to be cornhole, and he's pulling out the grill. I might bring some cards, too. I'm really hoping this will be as fun as he's hyping it up to be. Thank goodness there's going to be more to do there than drink and look for someone to hook up with.

Movies are something I'd like to think I know a great deal about, although I haven't seen any of those. I'm not into sports, but if there's one thing I'm really great at doing, it's listening and being enthusiastic.
