-Trans woman are just gay men who cross-dress.
-Trans men and non binaries are not even on people's radar.

Do you agree with this assessment of society?

Agreed. The first part is very true, but I'd have no idea about the second.

Are you asking if we agree with this assessment of society or if we agree with society's assessment of us?

Yup. Though I knew about Trans men because my cousin dated one for a while(He was really cool!)
I didn't find out about non binary people until last year.
I'm still working through internalized Transphobia, which is hard. Rude questions/ thoughts jump into my head, and I misgender people a lot(in my mind). Though I'm working through it.

Society views transmen as self-hating butch lesbians. And apparently, we all wear nothing but oversized plaid shirts and lack the understanding of personal hygiene to bother with deodorant... Oh, and we hate all male-bodied people bc we are insecure and jealous. :bang:

That said, this is the minority. Most people don't know or care what being transgender means. Most people are basically good but just under-educated.

Neither, I'm asking if you agree that that is how trans people are seen.
Does that make more sense?

Yeah sadly I think both are true....
Some people seem to think that trans people are just gay people who crossdress or want to be straight :eusa_doh:

I've heard people say that trans women are cross dressers, "extreme" homosexuals, closeted gay men (which is absurd; if anything, I'm sure most would choose this if it were possible), perverted and predatory straight men who want to infiltrate lesbian circles, narcissists...

Regarding trans men, most people are completely unaware of them, but they somehow get stereotyped as butch lesbians or girls who couldn't hack it living as a female, so decided to be a guy, instead. Again, absurd, considering how diverse trans men really are, so you couldn't say the reasons for transitioning are exactly the same.

Non-binary? We get called special snowflakes, confused, or transsexuals in-denial.

I haven't come across many situations in my life where I have witnessed people's reactions to trans people to be able to agree or disagree with those statements to be fair. But wherer I used to work, we occasionally had some trans women shopping in the ladies section. I wouldn't that the staff viewed them as gay men who cross dress. Unfortunately, it's much worse than that. :frowning2: They were branded 'perverts' who shouldn't be allowed in the ladies fitting rooms. Never had any (obvious) trans men as customers so can't comment on that one. As for my family, they view being transgender as a mental disorder.
