Can someone describe what it means (to them) to be, in terms of gender, a tomboy?

A girl who does stereotypically male activities, and/or dresses boyishly.

    That's behaviour, not gender.

    Spot on.

Really can't add anything to this.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read that part. Never heard 'tomboy' being used as a gender, but I imagine it's similar to bigender.

Here's an interesting thread about the word, though:

Well, tomboy isn't a gender identity. As far as I know.

Yeah, I'm not used to hearing it as a gender, but I think I've seen people here put it down. Was just curious

I suppose it just means that they identify as a masculine female.

They probably meant that they were masculine females, I don't feel the need to do it though.

Tomboy isn't a gender, but some people are putting it down to indicate that they aren't a girly girl.

It isn't a gender but it gives a one-word overview of the general behaviour characteristics of a girl who uses it, which can be useful sometimes. Same way as some people say they're lipstick lesbians... the lipstick part refers to personality and not sexual orientation but it's like a quick character classification thingy.

Most people use this term to describe that they are a masculine female. It's just a shorter, easier way to say it.

To me, tomboy isn't really a gender identity but more of a way to describe me in general? I guess it's kinda hard to explain. Being a tomboy is doing more stereotypically "masculine activities", hanging out with the guys and dressing a bit more "boyish". Hope this helps, see you around! Cheers!

Yeah I wouldn't say that tomboy is a gender on it's own, but I use the term to indicate to people that I'm really not a girly girl, although I may look it sometimes and that I do dress really boyish sometimes and kinda act like a guy.
