In application forms etc you normally have the option to put down your sexual orientation, but they're always limited to "straight", "gay man", "lesbian" and "bisexual". But if you're trans or non-binary, this is irritating. Why can't they just put down "gynophilic", "androphilic" and "bisexual" and take note of your gender to determine who's straight/gay to make sure there's no discrimination? Ironically this limitation was found on an evaluation form for an LGBTI conference. Herp a derp.
Anyway, I'm curious - what do you put down? I normally say "other" or "prefer not to say".

Wow, at a conference specifically for LGBT people? That's pretty bad. I'd draw a new box, as Sinon said.

Honestly a lot of cis lesbians I know prefer the word "gay". I like gay since it's an easy opportunity to show a little solidarity with gay men if people read me wrong. I would probably pick "lesbian" if it were me.

I guess you could click "straight" and "lesbian" if you want to conform, or check everything for fun / protest.

Thinking about it, my reply would actually be to draw another box and label it heart, check everything, and then write "with your powers combined I am captain fa...change your form to be trans inclusive will you?"

Yeah, just draw another box for it, like Sinon said.

I prefer not to use "gynophillic" or "androphillic" because it implies that it is a paraphilia - meaning, "the experience of intense sexual arousal to atypical objects, situations, or individuals" or "a condition characterized by abnormal sexual desires, typically involving extreme or dangerous activities".

Being attracted to men or women is not atypical nor is it abnormal.

Anyway, er, that's irrelevant, I think.

I put down other because I identify as grey-ace or simply just ace, although, if I wanted to be simple, I'd just put down that I was gay.

I consider myself pansexual, but I think I'd put "prefer not to answer". It's really none of anyone's business, and when it comes to love, anything could happen. I'm predominantly interested in men, but I wouldn't write off a woman just because she's a woman.

i've started just leaving stuff blank, especially the gender or orientation boxes. unless it's medical or legal stuff. online forms are irritating though, because they always make you pick something... then i just put the "prefer not to answer", or if there is an "other" with a box to fill in, i put something snarky.
