I'm having a bit of trouble explaining my preferred pronouns to people. I usually say they/them, but I always get the "that's plural" argument and can't convince them otherwise. Are there any other neutral pronouns I can use that are fairly easy to pronounce?

I learned the pronoun "xe", pronounced "zee", from my friend Ashley. I think it's inclusive for those of us with Gender differences.

    I like it! ^-^

  4. You could ask people to just not use pronouns and call you by your name, such as "(Insert) is coming with us to the movies," or "is (insert) ok with that?"

Yeah, that's what I've been using as the alternative for a while. ^-^ I was just wondering if maybe there were other pronouns I could use since my name's a bit girly.

There's a wikipedia page on the subject of the singular they. It's been around for a while. But you could equally use ze/hir.

    I think they/them is better

Never liked ze/hir. Sounds awkward in a sentence. But if you like it, you can use if

I've seen it. It's just hard for me to explain to other people. They can be so stubborn sometimes. >.<

I have a little story for you, and hopefully it can give you some ideas..

So in school we had to do a project on a historical person and my teacher gave us a list of things that needed to be included. He wrote it like "where and when they were born, information about their childhood, their career, etc."
And this kid in my group goes, "they?! We only have to do our project on one person though."
Me: "true. But 'they' in this case is only referring to our one person."
    Him: "but 'they' is plural!"
Me: "not always. When you don't know someone's gender, you can say 'what is their name?' Or you can use 'they' when you aren't referring to a specific person.: 'if I were to take a friend to the movie, they would have to come over by 7:00.'"
And he understood it pretty well. He's not queer in any way either (that I know of) so I was really happy with it.

Another thing I saw on tumblr which is more just a funny thing for you to enjoy is this: "If the idea that “they is plural” ever bothers you, just imagine that there's several of me and we're all screaming at you to use my correct f***ing pronouns."

explaining less used pronouns definitely sucks, especially when you have the douches who won't accept it because of incorrect grammar. depending on my level of irritation when i get into one of these arguments with people, sometimes i explain that language is constantly evolving and changing, and that the singular they is just yet another change. other times i point out the numerous grammatical errors they have made when speaking recently, and ask them why they made those mistakes if grammar is so important to them. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    I like they/them/thiers or xe/xem/xyrs the best, but I also like ey/em/eirs.

In the real world I use they pronouns, simply because people know them, but on message boards I use ze pronouns.
