I keep worrying that I've chosen the wrong name for myself. I decided on "Evan Andrew". It sounds great, I think, most people really like the name Evan, and most importantly, my mom likes the name Evan. But then, the name "Asa" (AY-sah) has always been in my heart. But my friend hates it, a lot of people don't like it, and most of all, my mom hates it. And then there's the "unique" factor. It's a pretty uncommon name, not many people know how to pronounce it, they think "assa". but with all logic against it, I can't get it to drop. And then there's the fact that I have the name "Evan" everywhere now as a preferred name and that's what I've told friends and family to use. (not that my family uses it) Dunno what to do. I've thought about putting it as a middle name, but idk. What do you all think? Both work with initials and both sound good with my last name.

I think it's a very cool name. Maybe you could use it as your middle name? Even Asa sounds good as well as Evan Andrew. It won't be the name people use to refer to you since, as you say, people aren't very big fans of it, but it will still be part of your name and identity.

You could definitely use it as a middle name. You might consider alternate spellings to get past the mispronunciation issue.

I agree with the others, you could use it as a middle name.

I'm on the same situation. The problem is that as you said the name has always been in my heart, so it's unlikely it would dissapear from your heart. My fav name kept coming back and refuses to go away, even if almost everybody seems to find it uncool.

Keep Asa as your middle name, and let them say whatever they want.

Well you have a few possibilities...
    you could switch...
you could wait and think it over a bit...
    you could think about alternatives:
Asa is also pronounced similarly to Isa and Asaya . Other similar baby names are Ace, Aias, Ara, Ash, Ashe, Ava, Ax and Axe.

I had this problem as well. Choosing a fitting name can be hard, exhausting and confusing. If you feel that it's in your heart and that you can't let it go, then let that be your name. Input from family and friends is nice to have but you're the one making the final decision.

I had a long talk about it today with a good friend of mine. I ended up deciding to change my name to Asa and honestly, I didn't realize how much of a weight it had on me. Making the decision, and changing it just makes everything feel so much lighter.
So now I'm thinking of middle names already! I don't waste time >3
What do you guys think of Asa Neal? If not, any suggestions?

Congrats, Ronin! I was just going to post that if Asa calls to you, you should use it. The name that has been calling to my heart for years isn't particularly "cool" but I know if I tried to go by anything else I wouldn't feel complete.

I think Asa Neal is an awesome combo, btw.

Depends on if you have had it legally name which is more complicated.
If not change it and you can do as the other poster mentioned use as a middle name or a nickname.
