Hi guys! I know, I know, I haven't been on here for a while. Real life has been a pain in the derriere recently.

So I got into my dream university, which is great, but the university also has a bit of a precedent of putting transgender students in the wrong dormitory. I contacted the campus LGBTQ Director and she told me to email the board of Housing for an appeal of sorts. So this is the letter I wrote and I just wanted some opinions on the wording and stuff before I hit the irrevocable "send" button.

So, any thoughts? Is the wording too forward? My thanks in advance for any feedback :icon_wink

I think you have every right to be forward, or rather, clear on your intention and rights. They have the obligation under many charters to grant your right. I say right rather than 'wish', because that's what it is.
It would be horrible of them to put you in a dormitory for females.
Send it! And hope things work out!

I think it to be very professionally and brilliantly written.

Well done! I hope that they allot you this. Maybe we could shame them on social media if they are transphobic and refuse...

I hope it goes alright, the letter seems pretty reasonable to me. This is why more schools should have gender neutral rooming options.

Well, they replied at least. Housing still insists on assigning me to female housing, since the gender marker on my application and legal documents are still female. Not ideal, but I guess I can understand why...But they did offer to house me in one of the residence halls that have mixed gender wings, and to assign me a room which is closest to the male bathrooms, so it's not a complete loss. I'm currently talking with the LGBT student community director to see if there are any other incoming FtM students that I can room with.

    Fingers crossed~

That's certainly less than ideal :frowning2: I don't get it why they have to be so... ugh...

Well it could have been worse. But it's good you keep talking with the LGBT student community director, they might be able to help you at least a bit.

    All the best,
    Rebecca
