Crossdressing has nothing to do with sexuality. There are plenty of straight guys who do drag and stuff, or some who just prefer women's clothes in general.

I don't think "most" gay guys crossdress, but that doesn't mean they can't. It also doesn't mean most crossdresser are gay.

So I'd say crossdressing is only a typical characteristic of crossdressers.

when I was in my early teens, I used to like dressing up, which often involved cross dressing. I didn't really see it as cross dressing at the time. That concept would not have meant anything to me. It was just part of a natural flamboyance. It wouldn't occur to me to cross dress now.

Nope. Actually most crossdressers are heterosexual men.

no it isnt. many straight men/women cross dress but dressing in a different gender is not an indicator of sexual orientation.

Most people consider me a straight female who likes to cross dress.
Though to me and a few friends I am a gay male that wears normal clothes.

People can dress how they please regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Crossdressing or drag are both things that are done by men and women of all sexualities. Me personally, I'm fine with drag, and will occasionally watch RuPaul, drag shows, and may even do drag myself in the future, especially if it's for a charity drag show.

I wouldn't say it's a characteristic, but it wouldn't surprise me if there's a higher incidence of it in the gay population.

I know bi & straight guys who dress. From just panties to having full wardrobes, including, wigs, makeup & accessories. Many started young. Others got into because of their girlfriend, wife or with a domme. Feminization is a big fetish. Though, I think there are too many negative connotations with that. Such as, humiliation & forcing. I prefer to encourage & uplift. For those that chose it on their own, it's not really a fetish. It's part of who they are. There are many reasons why they might engage in this.
