Can any one tell me what the situation is in the Canadian military with trans people? I'm going to enlist but I would also like more than anything to transition. I set myself up sense I was 10 to join the military, and I will not let anything stop that but I don't know how much longer I can pose as someone I'm not.

Well in the US they are in the process of modifying rules for transgender soldiers. Dunno about Canada.

being trans in the CAF isnt a problem on paper but there is a lot of trans and other LGBT phobia in the ranks and in the officer cadre. i just retired from 19 years in the officer cadre in the reserves. i wasnt out while i was active, even to me for most of it. but it is there, just to be aware of. it should be getting better after the report that was done last year on LGBT and gender discrimination in the CAF. i would never discourage someone from going into the CAF but be aware that there is a lot of sexism etc. its a very "macho" world.

Maybe you should consider transitioning first before signing up?

Thank you for the heads up, I'll keep that in mind.

That's not an option, I have 1.5 years before I join and I've based my whole life on this. As soon as I'm out of school I'm going in. I would start now but I'm broke because of college and my parents are less than supportive.
