So I plan to come out soon and I was wondering how long I would have to see a therapist before I can start T? I would hate to have to wait months or even a year. Basically I just want to know how long most people had to wait.

That's so highly variable I can't even give you a rough estimate. I was diagnosed with GID and given my T letter after the first meeting. Some people go through therapy for years first. After that I waited almost half a year to see the endocrinologist because of scheduling conflicts. For some people it takes years, for some it only takes like a month. If you feel like you urgently need to, tell your therapist that. It's all about scheduling and personal needs.

Thank you for replying! I am hoping once I start seeing a therapist everything will start moving along and I hope its not too long of a wait.

Also another question: can a regular therapist give you a letter for HRT? Or do I need to specifically find a gender therapist?

Legally, I'm not so sure what they can do, but I would highly recommend you see a specialist as most therapists have no idea how to go about it.

It took me about 6 months to get my letter. Every therapist is different though, so it really is hard to say when you will be able to get a letter. There are some that will give letters, but generally it is better to find somebody that has better knowledge of transition laws and such.

I am going today to see my therapist for only the 3rd time and she is willing to give me the letter. I think because I am older and tried to present as femme at our sessions she may assume I am ready. As they say your mileage may vary.

    Good luck

Yeah my guess was around 3-5 sessions! I am hoping I can start dressing more masculine so everyone takes me seriously about this.

I think here in Germany you technically have to be in therapy for six months to get the letter, but it's not regulated strictly. I know some people who got theirs after the first meeting and some who took two years.
I got mine after five months (five sessions) but it took me another three months to start T because I moved and had to look for a different endocrinologist.
It also depends on how confident you are in your identity. Some people go to therapy because they want to figure stuff out, I basically went in there and was like "Yup, I'm trans could you please just skip to the part where you write the T letter."
My therapist usually waited 6-8 months before writing the letter so I guess that did have some impact.
