A week or two back I posted a thread about me planning on coming out to my school. Well, today was the big day! I talked to my school counselor with one of my best friends, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. She was very kind and understanding of the whole thing, and asked me what I wanted and was unbelievably considerate. She emailed all my teachers so I'll probably talk to them tomorrow. I've heard all the trans horror stories about school and I feel so incredibly lucky. My experience so far has been great, the counselor thought my teachers would be fine, and the whole administration is now behind me if I have any problems with bullying. For any trans kids not out yet reading this: it's generally a good idea to start with guidance counselors. At least, they were immensely helpful for me. It's good to have the school district on your side so if issues arise, they can deal with them while understanding your situation. I'm going to be using the gender neutral bathroom from now on too, which will be a huge relief for gym especially since it's right there. My counselor actually said I could be a speaker for trans rights because I spoke well but I was like, 'one step at a time!' Anyways guys I'm super relieved this went well and thank you for all of your lovely support.
