Welp, it's official. I'm an apartment dweller again. I guess that is an improvement from "basement dweller," so I'm moving in the right direction. I'll be honest though - signing a 12 month lease was a little nerve-wracking.

I'm lying in my bed, in my very empty apartment, but I'm feeling ok. My clothes... Emma's clothes... are hanging in the closet, unhidden. And that is pretty awesome. All in all, today was a success.

Thanks, everyone! It is definitely an adjustment, but I'm settling in. You know it's official when you get your own popcorn popper! Mmmmm, popcorn! (!) No microwave popcorn for this Queen Em! :icon_bigg

    Best $30 you'll spend...West Bend Stir Crazy Popcorn Popper - Walmart.com

Here's a pro-tip. Save the bacon grease from when you fry bacon and keep it in the fridge, use a heaping tablespoon instead of oil and put in just shy of 3/4 cup popcorn. OMFG. BEST POPCORN EVAR.

A suggestion, if I may. Take some time, however long you need, and walk through your new apartment, from room to room. Do it barefoot, so you can feel the floor as you walk. Pause in each room and feel the room around you. Sit on the floor for a while. Close your eyes and listen. Hear every little sound. Take in the scents of the place. Imagine yourself in each room, doing everyday tasks. See how you want each room to look. It doesn't matter if you change your mind later about the decor, just see the potential there. Make each room yours, then move on to the next room. Do this in every room, even the closets (if they're big enough), bathrooms and kitchen. When you're done, say to yourself, "This is my space. This is my home." Say it out loud if it helps.

The whole idea here is to settle yourself in the space, to get it set in your mind that this is home now. Home is an important place for us, especially during times of change. Home can be the one constant place in our lives, even when the rest of our world is chaos. Every thing you bring into the house makes it a little more your own. Your popcorn popper was a great idea! I don't know if you cook, but even if you don't cook a lot, try to make a simple meal there every now and then. Soup and sandwiches, salad, or something that you make. Decorate with little, inexpensive things. Let the decor grow as you grow. Feel your femininity express itself with every personal touch you put into it.

Congratulations on finding your home. May it bring you happiness as long as you're there.

Another suggestion (this is such a hobo thing but w/e, I do it with 0 shame). If you find you're running out of space in your wardrobe, keep the tabs off of soda cans and hook one clothes hanger through one of the holes, then hook another through the other hole. Doing this, I managed to get back nearly half of my wardrobe, and it beats buying a bigger wardrobe, especially if it's a built in wardrobe!
