    Hey all

I am a 14 y/o boy and I am definitely gay, I know that. I have been comfortable as a boy for all my life (I think). I do not hate my genitalia or my male body and I enjoy shopping for male clothes. However in the past few weeks I have had this weird, panicky feeling that I can't shake that I am trans! ANd yet I can't picture myself as a woman...

But just today I read a question on a transgender forum, and the answer suggests if you are trans or not. It said: 'If you woke up in hospital and the wrong op had been performed, and you were a woman with working female parts, would you be happy?' And I realised I would be fine with it, cos I could like men and be a woman. I'm not sure I would miss my male body. Having thought this I freaked out that I was transgender.

No matter how many times I persuade myself this horrible feeling keeps coming back. Does this question indicate I am trans? Am I in denial? And if I'm not, how do I stop this feeling.

I'd love your opinion...Thank you for any answers

Why would you be happy with the female body?
Why are you "not sure I would miss my male body"?

Because I could then date guys and it would be perceived by society as normal. And I would miss my identity as a male but not the body so much. I don't love my male body enough to miss it. Although I might. I'm really confused tbh

No, it doesn't mean you're trans. It just means you like guys and value it much. Also, not everybody subscribes to the scenario "if you woke up...". I don't either.

You don't sound trans, you just sound like you want to be able to date men and be accepted by everyone in society. Everyone isn't "normal", society has their ways of judging people who are different from them, whether it be ones sexual preference or the way they style their hair.

But, the whole thing you saw in a forum, I don't really believe it myself. I have known quite a few people who would say things along the line of they would be fine having the opposite sex's body, and they weren't trans.

Thank you! It's nice to hear from someone with experience

But then why do you think I have this panicked feeling that i might be transgender?

Thanks for the detailed reply. So it's not possible that I am in denial?

I don't know. Supposedly it's not uncommon for gay teenagers to wish they were the opposite sex to date the same sex. You don't see it much in this forum, but in general if you read what causes a major gender identity crisis it's being gay, trans or androgynous. Usually. There's also sexual abuse, I believe. So that happens.

It's possible, but based on what you have said, I really don't think you are.

Yeah I mean you could be but nothing you said really indicates that you are. Do you ever actively WISH you had a female body, and/or dislike it when people refer to you as male?

No I never have. However when I see a woman's body in the last 2/3 days I do get a rush of anxiety but I think this is just me panicking more? And no I don't dislike it when people refer to me as male.

I'd say don't worry about it. Of course easier said than done.

One thing is how you understand yourself, another is what you want to do. It looks like you are asking yourself if you are a girl and if you would want to transition to female. Maybe which gender roles expectations you don't want to follow. It's okey to think it all through. Take your time

It doesn't sound like it, it just sounds like you'd appreciate having an easier time dating men and (potentially,) more options.
