More and more, top surgery seems like a good possibility in my future. I also want to be bulkier, with more muscle, and wanted to know if it's a bad idea to build a lot of upper body muscle before the surgery, in case muscle needs to be removed to get to the fat tissues.

This is the kind of thing you ought to speak to a doctor with.

Definitely speak to a doctor. But from an aesthetic stand point, building chest and shoulder muscle will make your boobs shrink(by converting any fat), and appear smaller.

It's actually best to have a lot of muscle before top surgery. Gives the surgeon a better contour to work with and recovery is easier if you're in good shape.

Patrick is right. Top surgery results tend to be better if you have more muscle in your chest. It's often recommended that you try to work out and gain muscle before getting top surgery. There shouldn't be any reason to remove muscle in order to access fat tissue. There isn't any muscle in front of your breast tissue. If there were, you would feel it, and it would feel super weird.

The other two are right too. When in doubt, talk to a doctor. They know what's best and can give the most personalized care.
