I'm ftm. The name that I chose for myself is Ross, and I'm pretty happy with that name. But I have a bit of a problem. The middle name that my mom have me is very feminine. It was named after her best friend, and holds sentimental value to her. It's "Jewel". I get really dysphoric about that name, but at the same time I don't want to be an asshole and just get rid of it if it has sentimental importance. I don't know of any middle names that could kind of go along with this middle name so that I can have a middle name that doesn't give me dysphoria, and fit in with the original name. Any ideas?
I've realised I'm agender and want a gender neutral name. I have the same issue, my middle name is my mom's name and I don't want to upset her but it's too feminine. Are there any male equivalents of Jewel?
Jasper is a male gemstone name. Jade can be used for either males or females. You could also consider naming yourself after something similar to Mom's friend (maybe a relative or something) so it still holds value.
Otherwise I would suggest that you ask your mom to choose a middle name for you. That way it could still have sentimental value for her.q
I agree with others above... perhaps Julian? Try reading your name as the full name like Ross Julian _____ and see if you like it...
I agree with the above, I think Jules or Julian are the most similar to your given name. Also, if it helps, I know a guy whose middle name is his mom's name. If you do end up keeping it for sentimental reasons, you could always go with two middle names; Ross Tyler-Jewel for instance.
I think what NerdByNature suggested to ask your mom to pick a middle name for you is a cool idea. Of course, that could not be a possibility for you, but then she could pick another name of value. Or, if you have any relatives with names that hold value in your family? Good luck
I agree with the statement above, except I tend to like the idea of changing your middle name to Jules.... as it is one that can be used for both male & female... and it sounds pretty much the same except that it's sounds plural... ie. Jewel to Jules.
I agree with the others, but I will also give my own input: How about Juel? it pretty much sounds the same and it is masculine.
