So for those of you that know me, you know that I have been recently discovering who I really am. And just recently I've become confused on my gender. If someone could please explain the following: I am Bisexual with a more feminine attitude who is also masculine at times as well. I would just like to be able to put a name to how I feel. If there is any advice you guys can give, that would be great. -Love, Tim
Hi Tim, Are you talking about your gender identity shifting or shifting between feminine and masculine attitudes? You might want to look up genderfluidity. I identify as genderfluid, which means that my gender identify shifts between male and female, sometimes daily, sometimes weekly, monthly or even hourly or depending on a certain situation.
I don't know exactly. Thats why I'm asking you guys for help. Is it normal to identify as a guy but still act feminine? Or does my feminine attitude put my gender identity in question?
It's perfectly normal to identify as a guy and behave feminine. Your gender identity, the gender(s) you identify as (feeling either male, female, both, neither or anything in between) is one of the things that make up your identity as a whole. It's not a set of attitudes and behaviours, it's a feeling.
Ok. I understand now. And I've been doing some research and I'm pretty sure I'm Bi-Gender. I say that because the way I feel and the way I act shifts from both ends of the Binary spectrum. That and some days I just feel like being a girl and others like a boy. Thank you so much for your help and for being supportive. -With lots of love, Me
Being masculine or feminine doesn't change your gender identity, gender roles/gender expression is separate from gender identity, there's lots of feminine guys.
Actually, that's the description of bi-gender, fluctuating between one and another. Genderfluid is more than just masculine and feminine (or masculine and agender, or androgyne and feminine, there are many options for bi-gender). Genderfluid also includes a lot of stops in the middle, such as days you'd be agender, or androgyne, or masculine, or demi-girl, or whatever, etc. Genderfluid is more "fluid," it sloshes around, compared to bi-gender which pretty much has two stops with nothing in the middle. Think of getting from point A to point B on a non-stop flight; that's bi-gender. Driving from point A to point B, taking side routes and visiting out of the way sites along the trip; that's genderfluid.
You're absolutely right, I should've mentioned the nuances. In my mind 'between' includes everything inbetween.
Thanks you guys. I'm just really happy that I'm being more open with myself and being expressive about it too. That's always been hard for me.
