Hi all! We have a transgender member in my PFLAG chapter. I found out today that she might be missing. I'm very worried. I talked with her last on June 17th or 18th. She was going to ride with me to Portland Pride but things didn't go as planned so we ended up not going. She wasn't too disappointed saying that we've got "Bend Pride". Well I didn't see her at Bend Pride. I was worried then. Today her mother reported her missing after not seeing her for a week. She went to her apartment and found her wallet and cell phone laying there.

Please send good thoughts for her safe return. There is a trans support group tomorrow night that I know she would not miss. Let's hope she shows up. :frowning2:

I have bad news. Marcie was found dead in the trunk of her car with the ignition on. Police are pretty sure she killed herself but they are investigating. She was coming to PFLAG when I started 7 years ago but she could barely speak at meetings. She just sat there not saying anything. She transitioned over the years and had grown into a person who not only talked at meetings but she really wanted to be an advocate for other trans people.

Marcie's family is "very Catholic" so I've heard. Marcie talked about them being unsupportive all the time. She also had recently been laid off from work. She was called back and on the first day of work she got harassed by several people.

The minister at the Universalist Unitarian fellowship where Marcie attended called the parents. They are having a Catholic service as "Mark" (her former name) because they are embarrassed for their friends to know that Marcie was transgender. It makes me sick that she will be buried in mens clothes because she would have really hated that. That was the person the parents loved not the real Marcie.

A memorial for the glbt community is being planned. I'm off to Nashville on Tuesday so I won't be able to attend but I'm going to write something up for someone to read.

    RIP Marcie :frowning2:

:frowning2: I'm really sorry, Becky. Especially about the fact that her parents can't just give her what she wanted in the end. (*hug*) I'm sure you will write something fantastic.

    RIP, Marcie.

It's freaking 2010 and people can't live their lives as they are, in peace.
    For fuck's sake.
That does not sound like a suicide, not in the trunk. That sounds like a murder.

And her family can't even respect who she is enough to bury her in something she would appreciate.

I'm sorry for your loss. Really.

Oh god, that's horrible. I'm so sorry. (*hug*)

I think it's awful that her funeral and burial aren't even going to represent who she really was. How can her parents do that? Even if they are transphobic, the least they could have done was respect her wishes for her fucking funeral. She at least deserves that amount of dignity. God...that's just ridiculous.

Again, I'm really sorry for your loss. :frowning2: My condolences go out to you and her other loved ones.

I'm so sorry. It's really sad that her parents are so selfish.

I truly am sorry for this loss. And the fact that her parents won't let her be who she truly is, even in death is just... it's too horrible to describe. She lived her life never being accepted by them, and trying to gain their respect. So now that she's gone let her have it. Karma will hit them sooner or later. Anyway I really am sorry and my condolences to her loved ones, friends, and family. RIP Marcie
