I just found out who my roommate is going to be for my freshmen year of college, and his dad is a pastor at a baptist church. I'm completely secular, so I don't understand what this means completely, but the who religious thing worries me a bit. I looked at the church website and it didn't really say much, but it looks like it's a member of the Missouri Baptist Churches, and on their website it says that as good Christians all members should avoid sexual vices like adulatory, homosexuality, and pornography. The school I'm going to is pretty intellectual and secular, so I'm hoping that everything's ok with my roommate.
The thing that annoys me the most is that on my roommate matching survey it listed a bunch of things and asked me which of them I was interested, which I was neutral about, and which I disliked, and one of the only two I said I disliked was practicing religion... Also, I stated I was gay and that that was a concern for me in the "any other concerns" section, so I'm hoping he's not antigay or anything.

Any advice? I'm kind of worried about telling him now.

Well, if he is, talk to your RA. They're trained to deal with things like that. Universities change roommates all the time. Either that or you can find a hot boyfriend and sleep in his room, lol.

Actually, a lot of Pastor's Kids (aka PK) are pretty wild. So, don't assume anything based upon his father's occupation. Wait and see how it goes.

If it is a problem they'll be able to find you a new roommate. But the funny thing is that all the pastor's kids I know are gay :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yea, I'm somewhat hopefully since he doesn't seem too extreme or anything from his facebook. He's not hot though :frowning2: So I could care less if he's gay haha.

Religious people are not aliens. You could be the one to help change his viewpoints on gays and make him more open-minded. You might also learn a thing or two about his beliefs. As long as both of you take a "live and let live" motto and not argue too much or think he can "convert" the other, then maybe this will be a good thing.

I agree for this statement and can vouch for it being a fact. My uncle is a pastor and he doesn't know half the things they do.

XD As a pastor's kid myself, I find myself constantly objecting my mother's (the pastor's) every wish. Anyone else in my predicament will tell you that they feel constantly oppressed in their own homes. So just take this roommate guy as just a normal person. Because in all honesty, he probably just wants to forget about being "the pastor's son" and just move on.
