I don't like the word "Gay". It literally makes me wanna cringe whenever I label myself as gay... does anyone else feel this way or is it just me? How can I get over it...?

I came out to around 6 people, and I didn't say I was gay, I found a way around it, like I said to one that I "wasn't straight" but that could mean so many things, like bi or something......:help:

EDIT: I have no idea why I don't like it by the way, it might stem from my family's hate toward LGBT ... but I love the LGBT community, so I have no idea why it makes me uncomfortable but I obviously will have to label myself as Gay in the future.

Labeling is all your choice buddy; I prefer the term Homosexual for gay people, but that is my opinion.

Don't worry, it took me a while to get used to the word gay too. When I found out, it was when I was still talking to my dad, and he was hardcore Christian and totally against the LGBT community. So, the though of being labeled as 'gay' just...i dunno, i just didn't like it. But hey, like unknown said, labeling is all your choice! You can call yourself whatever you want. Heck, you don't even need to have a label. You can just be *insert name here* who happens to like guys. That's it, it's all your choice, but I think that with time you'll feel better about the word gay.

Side note, I LOVE that quote you have, and most of all Sharon Needles! Oh, her on Rupaul's Drag Race was like a breath of fresh air! I loved her soooo much, and was so glad she won

Yeah, i still have a hard time saying it. That conditioning from a young age that gay = the worst thing possible, doesn't fade away the instant we come out. It's kind of minor in reality though, like being left handed, so it might help to think of it as just one trait/interest we have.

Oh. my. goddddddddddddddddddd. That show is my favorite. So glad that someone actually replied about my signature and even mentioning Rupauls Drag Race like...... YesssSsS. You're my favorite person.

That's true, I guess I'm gonna have to get used to it since it's commonly used.

Basically my life! Hopefully I'll get over it soon...! :icon_redf
