    Hi,

I'm currently reading some material on bodybuilding...and I'm so confused. I cannot go gym because my schedule will not allow me and I tend to get distracted very easily when surrounded by people. So I have to workout at home. I was wondering if anyone here can be kind enough to help me out or at least point me in the right direction. So here are my questions:

    1. What will I need to design a home gym? I have the money and space.

    2. What and how often shall I eat? There is so much information relating to this area that it is mind boggling. This is what I usually eat:

    Breakfast: porridge

    Snack: any fruit available lol

    Lunch: salad and grilled chicken

Snack: toast with honey most of the time

    Dinner: rice and grilled chicken

I do treat myself once a week. I usually drink water and green tea.

Should I simply continue with this eating plan?

    3. Do I really need to drink protein shake?

Sorry I'm new to all this lol.

    Thanks!

Dumb bells are the most useful exercise equipment to have. Make sure you have adjustable ones with a separate rod and plates so you can swap in different weight plates and change how much you are lifting. Don't get those ones where it is all together as one unit because you need to be able to change how much they weigh.

A barbell is also useful. The diameters of equipment is pretty standard so you should be able to use the same weight plates for both this and the dumbbell rods.

A pullup bar is great although you can substitute it with anything you can grab onto a hang from.

A bench is also great, but you could get away with just doing those exercises on the floor.

I won't bother listing anything else because I don't think it is necessary. Some specialised equipment can definitely make hitting certain muscle groups much easier (I'm mainly thinking about hamstrings and some other legs muscles here) but the vast majority of the time you can do it equally well with what I've listed above.

From what you've said your diet seems pretty good, although I don't see any vegetables on there!

Protein shakes/supplements are only useful if you aren't getting enough protein from your regular diet. Prioritise your normal diet first rather than going straight to supplements.

Just make sure this doesn't happen to you:

    XD

I don't have much advice as to what to include in your home gym, but watch out with those protein powders: they contain A LOT of protein, and too much protein can deplete the mineral content of your bones (for real, this is not stuff I picked up on random "natural health" websites). It's easy to overdo it on them, so I'd recommend talking to your doctor or a nutritionist first. Good luck!

    ^ LOL

Actually that is a good idea. Once I get started and improved my diet I will speak to my doctor about taking protein powders.
