So I've been pet-sitting my neighbor's 2-month-old Gardener Snake (they have small kids who insisted on keeping him), and I found he had escaped his cage and is now somewhere in their house.

Is there a way of luring Gardeners into somewhere, like a trap I could set? Pleeease tell me, I know nothing about Gardeners in particular and really need to find this snake!

    Thanks,

    ~Sunshine

I have owned a Garter Snake. They are known to get out. Your best bet is air ducts. These snakes will look for a place to burrow. Look in corners and closest, under the stove, anywhere dark and warm. Close all vents. Close all doors. Go room by room.

If all else fails, follow the poop.

When you find it, pick it up with a towel or oven mit.

Probably not a wise thing if it happens to be a morph.

Buying a new snake only work if you can get the exact same breed. Most found garter snakes are illegal to have (well in michigan it is), because of how endangered the hawk species is, taking their food for pets isn't nice. Most cases the store bred ones look a bit different. OP is better off finding a new snake, if she has to.

Better idea would be explaining what happened and letting the owners choose what to do..

Pile of dead mice/rats to attract it and stay up all night to see if it comes to eat xD If you definitely cant find it anywhere around the house defo put the mice outside the vent. Also... just a gross tip if you slit the top of the mouse's head open and expose the brain the snake kinda likes it and will be more likely to come  Keeping snakes is so lovely sometimes... Some people also leave flour on the floor to see if the snake leaves any trails.

Hmm, are you sure that garter snakes eat that? A lot of them are very small, too small to kill a mouse, and surely they don't feed themselves by randomly finding dead mice in nature... Don't ask me what they eat though, I have no clue lol.

I'd just explain the situation to the neighbor, apologize profusely, and offer to buy a new one if possible.

I am glad I am not a neighbor or your neighbor... Is the snake poisonous?
