Some people just use pet names or whatever they're called for friends as well as significant others. My best friend calls just about everyone she's friendly with sweetie or hon.
I get called it by some, but I usually correct them. I really don't like pet names, especially from random people.
I have some friends that call be babe. They're all older then me, but they pretty much call everyone babe.
