I'm constantly logging in and out of social networks (7-8 times in 2 hours), checking for notifications and messages. I'm always anxious about "what's happening" and get palpitations. I'm suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Checking. How can I stop doing this? Please help! :help:

What makes you anxious about messages and notifications?

Let's just say, I rarely get notifications (comments) and messages. I get really happy when someone writes something to me. :icon_redf So, I'm anxious to see if someone's written something to me. :icon_sad:

Delete or deactivate ALL of your social media accounts. Problem solved.

I did that. Then reactivated them out of anxiety.

What happens is that a person can move from one form of social media to another. That happens, too.

I really like EC; keeps me off Facebook! Maybe I should stick to EC.

Facebook doesn't work for a lot of people. They've written articles about that. For some, it's a boost and for others it's a negative experience. It's negative when people hold you in "freeze frame" in perpetuity. If so, it's time to avoid it.

How long did you de-activate your FB for? The first few days, you're likely to think about it quite a lot, but after a while, you just forget about it all.

You're right. I wanted to be in touch with old friends and circles. Turns out they found new friends and circles.

    I deactivated FB for 3 months then re-activated it. Shouldn't have re-activated. :eusa_doh:

I removed the FB app from my smartphone. I check it on the laptop about once a week or when I get notified about a message or invite, otherwise I don't use the messaging/chat feature there. There's a theory that some people are constantly on FB due to "fear of missing out". I find for me it's more a "feeling of missing out" when you see friends doing fun things with other friends and you weren't present or invited etc... That and the ones who mostly post attention seeking negative stuff over burnt toast and other trivial matters, when I feel like I can't talk to anyone about some issues and suffer alone. Your mileage may vary.

The initial feeling is like that...but thinking about something else works for me. Try doing a hobby. (EC counts  )

EC ftw! I sort of ran out of hobbies (used to learn french and do online researches on psychology stuff) but YouTube is also fun! Thanks for the suggestions guys! (&&&)
