I have a choir question on singing an octave lower, I know I should ask this months ago but do you play an octave lower when singing music, when I compare a note when singing in the choir and playing the piano I hear a major difference, on the music piece I play the C above middle C it's sounds a bit higher then what the tenors in choir play. So how does singing and playing the piano work?
As somebody who knows almost nothing about formal music training, could it be that the piano's out of tune?
Written pieces for tenor are sung an octave lower. The cleff usually has a little 8 under it meaning "ottava bassa" (lower octave) This only happens with tenor though. Alto and Soprano sing in their written octave.
